VR through origin vs SteamVR (experiment)
Ok so Im running i9 9900k on a RTX 2070 w/ 16gb mem, game installed on an ssd. I currently have the Rift S hmd.

With steamVR i have to run game settings on Medium or Low to get stable performance. Through origin, which uses just the oculus client for vr, I can run on Ultra settings flawlessly.

Steamvr just does not like the Rift S.

Have you bought the game on both platforms, or does it somehow link one purchase to both stores? I bought it on steam and do not see it in the Origin client.

I wonder if this affects other VR headsets as well?

No, the reason is Oculus / Facebook don't like SteamVR. Valve asked support to Oculus to add native Rift S in Steam VR and they don't collaborate. All the Oculus integration in Steam VR is doing by Valve almost blind because Oculus don't want to help.

Do you still get a jitter/stutter when steering your ship?

I get jitter/stutter when steering left and right in WMR in Steam VR. It is strange because the framerate is smooth when I go up or down.

No not anymore on origin. The problem I had with steamvr was the judder, especially close to large ships.

I was lucky I had only 100 minutes so I refunded and got it from the epic store... now I can actually enjoy the VR expeirence with my 1080 until I get my hands on a 3080...

I have a CV1 and the differenc eis night and day! was unplayable through steam VR unfortunately... :(

The only difference with openVR and Oculus api is that Steam VR has an auto supersample thing which can sometimes stack so you end up with more SS than you realise. It runs the same when the pixels density is exactly the same for both.
Tested this with dirt 2 a while back

Were you able to find a solution with your testing? Specifically No man sky and this game seemed to be bottlenecking between oculus and steamvr. Is it the resolution per eye?

I have purchased on both platforms. Can confirm that origin runs it much much better. I have 90fps in VR and max settings. However, still jitter when it comes to turning.

Wait, im confused. Can i play the game directly form origin without opening Steam vr? (i own it on origin) WMR

Somehow I'm playing on the Quest using Virtual Desktop (wirelessly) and it's smooth as butter, over Steam VR. Not using Origin. But if I try the link cable it's hot garbage. So I don't think it's an Oculus issue in general, maybe just for Oculus Rift?
