I don't specially like Origin but I don't hate it either. If Origin is not needed for this title it's an insta buy here on Steam. If it's needed as every other EA game so far I may just get in on Origin, a launcher on a launcher is too much for me.
I did, but as OP stated it could be a mistake on the EULA text. Every other EA title requires Origin, so it's suspicious.
Don't bet a wooden nickel on it.
Epic states it requires Origin
The Eula states it requires Origin
Other recently released titles, such as Fallen Order, require Origin.
The case against requiring Origin:
The steam store does not explicitly list it, where there are additional gold boxes on other steam titles that do require it.
On one hand, the reason they claim to use a variant of Origin through steam on other titles is for DRM protection, where these other titles were released originally exclusive to Origin and may not have been developed to work without that DRM layer- this new title may represent their new relationship with Steam, trusting them to provide the anti-piracy layer on their own platform on titles going forward. On the other, very little information has been released yet, so it's possible that the listing on steam is incomplete and doesn't list Origin because they haven't gotten the system requirements yet. Fallen Order had an initial release with steam support, yet still required Origin. They've also mentioned cross-platform support, which suggests everybody will need to access the same infrastructure.
From this, it seems more likely than not that it will require some Origin installation to run, same as the other titles. I wish it weren't so- who needs yet another background service, not to mention other concerns specific to Origin- but I suspect when the store page is updated with minimum requirements, we'll also see an update with the requirement for an Origin install.

I wanna be ready & able to play this right out of the box
without having to futz around with making an EA account first, y'know?
So can somebody please give me a link to the EA registration page?
Thank you! 👍🏻
But as soon as I have to download EA Origin Launcher I'm going to refund.
Me: stops reading there and starts ignoring game.
