How Do I like Progress?
My first time really playing sims, I feel like I build a house, and I got about 3 people in it.
They go to work, come home, go to work. They make a little bit of money, I upgrade the house, then they keep doing that.
There seems to be only like 3 places to visit for entertainment.

What exactly am I missing here? I know it's a life simulator, but I feel like I am missing something. Do you unlock more places as your characters progress, or you build?
Do I need the dlc/mods to have more fun?

The Sims 4 is an unfinished game when you play it without DLCs as far as I've heard. Try TS3 or TS2.

With the base game you are limited to what is on offer. you have three worlds to play around in. Willow Creek has a large park, outside of this there is a main street that contains a library, gym, nightclub and museum. Oasis springs also has a large park and outside that along a busy road is a museum, a lounge, a gym and a bar. Newcrest is what ever you want to make of it. Starting out you are limited in what you can do.

modifications can help expand those horizons a bit but eventually you'll want to see new places and new things. DLC's open up other worlds, skills, clubs, celebrity system, occults, active careers and so forth. it's up to you if you wish to get any DLC's and i can't make that choice for you.

even in the three base worlds you could still find quite a few things to do. it's not just about doing the 9 to 5 routine, there are building lots, roleplaying sims in households like you get in those soap operas, challenges. there is quite bit to do if you think about it.

What DLCs are suggested off the start?
Also yeah basically that was my question, what should I be doing besides the 9to5?

And by challenges you mean like the talk to X amount of people?
And I don't recall seeing any soap opera things

The sims 4 is a sandbox game. It's a lot about making your own fun.

What do you like to do? Most DLC's are themed, Do you want a pet? Do you want to run a store? Go to the university? Do you like occult?

Where do you want to live? In an isle paradise? In an apartment? A mansion? A trailer? A ship?

You can rebuild the lots to give the entertainment you want or download some new lots from the gallery.

Challenges are self impost rules like there are for instance rags to riches where you start with nothing and get riches, 100 baby challenge or you to only allowed to make Simelons from farming. You could also have one where you are not allowed to have a 9to5 .

so there is more to the question than it appears. it can create whole new ones like mentioned above right at the end.

imagination. you got a mind between your ears and given some examples. It's upto you if can think of something imaginative and give it a try, see if you can do something. but there is plenty of material on the internet if you go looking. many simmer looking for different challenges.

Challenge yourself: ask the question and answer it within regards to TS4, is there more beyond the 9to5 job?

Was not aware you can rebuild lots, interesting.
But ok good information, I get it's sandbox and a lot is imagination. But I guess I feel restricted still due to having small knowledge of the game, and what exactly is possible.

I felt when I was playing last, I was just grinding 9to5. But I did have a few people in the house, so maybe I should restart and focus on one person, then maybe introduce one more eventually as a partner, and slowly build up.

That's a good place to be in, you've just laid the foundation for your lot, it's about what materials you want to build your house from, the design of the pipes, electrics, plumbing, lighting and so forth and then how to decorate it. (figuratively writing)

TS4 is very complex, start with something small, that's what i did when i first started, then work your way out when you feel like you are ready to think bigger picture. It can be highly addictive when your imagination and creativity starts flowing from you. You could lose thousands of hours into this game.

Good luck to you on your journey.

Honestly speaking, Sims4 only seems way more fun if you use it to customise and style interior/exterior home designs if you didn't have any other DLCs in the game. Most definitely would suggest getting some CCs 'Custom Content' online via https://www.thesimsresource.com. They can also give you some value to the game.

I do agree, Sims 4 is definitely not a game of accomplishment/ending, moreso a game that continues as the Sims grow older. :SoundfallRock:
