Edit: Whatever your want to purchase don’t purchase For Rent. They still have not fixed the corruption issue which more likely will happen if you create/play with residential rentals.
When I made this post I didn't have any particular playstyle in mind, but now that you mentioned, personally I would like the family mechanics, legacy and such. I also like the funny, paranormal stuff like Vampires and Werewolves.
I was checking the list and it seems like anything that's not a Pack or Stuff is an actual expansion, especially the ones name Expansion, hehe.
If you like to play with families, Parenthood and Growing Together add a few very nice mechanics, and with Growing Together you get a new map, too.
Okay, thanks. I'll start with these. Game has too many DLCs, can get them all at once.
Expansion packs I recommend (I do not own all, but I have a lot): Cottage Living, Growing Together, Seasons, City Living.
Same with the animals with the Horseranch. If you like horses, next to Red Dead Redemption 2 the Horse expansion in sims 3 and 4 are considered by many to be among the best horse games out there (as "real" horsegames are either made for little girls or crap alltogether).
Horses like cats and dogs are family members (not controllable without mods, though), other animals are more like interactable, moving items. But cute items.
I love the werwolves.
Batuu offers a whole new world with its own gameplay. Unfortunately it's not all that interesting and of course the wrong era to be interesting in the first place, but if you want to play a SW household, the lightsabers and clothes are worth it.
Strangervillle also has a unique storyline that's nice for at least playing once (I'm in the middle of it right now). It's like you're in the middle of the X-Files or in Stranger Things, but funny ;-)
game packs are the same as expansion packs except not as much content and they dont all add a new map
for stuff packs
these all add new items to play with some of them with their own skill to level, stuff packs not listed add no gameplay
crystal creations
home chef hustle
paranormal
nifty knitting
tiny living
moschino
laundry day
bowling night
kids room stuff
movie night
spooky
cool kitchen
for kits bust the dust adds new gameplay
restoration workshop allows you to fix up a broken stove/coffee maker/microwave/fridge
kitchen clutter allows you to put a few interactable objects down but no new gameplay
none of the kits are worth it unless you feel you must have them
My most recommendation DLC :
- Seasons
If you want pets?
- Cats and Dogs
If you like family playstyle that raising your baby, infant, and children until they grow adulthood :
- Growing Together
- Parenthood
If you wanna be a writer or musician with the max royalty and influence (Fame Mechanics) :
- Get Famous
If you like playing as supernatural creatures :
- Vampires
- Realm of Magic
- Island Living
- Life and Death
Start your own business
- Business and Hobbies
- Get To Work
- Dine Out
- For Rent
I choose this reply as "answer" just because it's a very summarized version of everything that was discussed so far. Thank you all for the explanation, I'll get the DLCs slowly during the next sales, but now I have a better idea on where to start.
