Stuff I've gathered from a number of previous threads on this topic:

If Origin asks for a Product Key:

I did it!!! :D

Sorry if the translation is off, but I use the German client and try to translate the buttons...
So, click on the upper list on "games" -> "add non- ea game" and then you can look for the exe file from The Sims 4.
I found it in my Steam Bib (where you have the game installed) -> steamapps -> common -> The Sims 4 -> Game -> Bin
and then click on "TS4_x64.exe"

Then wait click on the game which was added and wait a few seconds. Then: Have fun with the game :)

Hope that works for you!

Possible fix if Origin askes for a Key!
After linking Steam and Origin i could not launch Sims 4 because i got asked for a key. I reinstalled Origin and after i login i could see the game in my library with a Steam banner.

Now it starts like it should.

--------------------------------------------

Thank you all for your suggestions! Oddly enough, my game started working though I'd done nothing.

For those just coming in, a product key is not needed. Your Origin should recognize the game if linked to your Steam and should run once you hit play, whether on Origin or on Steam. Like I said, I am unsure as to why mine started working when I'd changed nothing, but if you you still have issues, please try one of the suggestions above by these lovely people.

(My note: This may have been from restarting the computer.)

------------------------------------------------

For anyone having issues playing the Free Trial, exit out of Origins completely after EA forces you to link your Origins and Steam account. Then start the game application from the Steam Library. Your game should open up now for those three days. If any questions let me know.

I am planning to buy the Seasons bundle because everyone is saying that the Star Wars and Cats and and Dogs bundle does not have enough content. I'm just glad everything is on sale at 19.99 which in my argument should be the base price for all of the Sims 4 DLCs. But of course we know this is EA and its microtransactions. However, I have been eyeing this for a long time and did not want ot buy it on Origins when it was on sale for 4.99 because I don't like Origins.

----------------------------------------------

They must close everything and open origins from the beginning, it will send them to the main page and in exploring games they give the sims 4, they give them to see the library and they give them play and they will have the game

(My note: Some people said they had to close and reopen everything multiple times before it finally worked)
-------------------------------------------------

I was able to get through this by cancelling that prompt and relaunching the game via Steam. However, I already had an Origins account and Origins client installed before I purchased the game on Steam. I don't believe the Steam version gives you a key to input in Origins.

---------------------------------------------------

install origin and have a valid EA account logged into it. remember the credentials since that EA account will be binded forever to the game.

if that prompt pops out, cancell it and launch the game from steam. steam should sync with origin and "provide" a valid key that will link to the EA account and the problem should be fixed.

remember that origin must be running always with the same account logged in in order to play the game since the game actually runs by origin using steam as a pretty mask to hide the hideous origin UI.
Thanks HiFive! :cocktail:
