DLC carry-over and new ones from Steam
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm still seeing mixed responses from reading online so far.

Let's say I own the base game and all DLC except Eco-Lifestyle on Origin.

1. After purchasing a Steam copy of the game, will I have access to all of my DLCs if I launch the Steam version of the game? Will all the DLC buttons in the main menu marked "Owned"?

2. If I purchase Eco-Lifestyle DLC through Steam, will the Steam version recognize I have all the DLC installed then?

Thanks in advance :D

This all goes via Origin. If you buy the game on Steam and own DLC on Origin, yes your DLC will be available as long as you log in with the correct Origin account when you launch it. If you buy DLC on Steam, I can only assume it will work since all Steam does is activate the product on Origin and launch it.

If you already own the game on origin, better to use origin and purchase all DLCs there. If you never owned the game before, using steam is better.

Can confirm, works like a charm. Ingame it does download all owned DLC's.

I see. So basically everything works if you log in with the right Origin account when prompted. Thank you!

I own DLC on origin and bought the game on steam because it was supposed to transfer over DLC you own but its not saying i own any of the DLC on steam So how am i supposed to download the DLC on steam. I have my origin account linked with my Steam account.

The DLCs won't be downloaded via Steam, once it's tied to that Origin account you can open up Origin normally and there will be a separate instance of the game just for Steam and you can download all the DLC on that there. Then once you launch it via Steam and it's all downloaded, it will launch that specific version of Sims 4 and all your DLC will be there. :)

If you have dlc on origin, that is for the origin version of the game.
The steam dlc is for the steam version of the game.
nothing gets automatically transferred, and those "modifying" the game by copying their origin files to the steam folder and setting the steam and origin games to never update..

well..

Origins official stance on this matter is they want you to buy the content again. This was not put on steam for people who already have the game on origin. This was put on steam for people who wanted to play the game on steam.

If you have all the content and want to play this on steam..then click add non steam game and save your money. It's basically the exact same thing since it requires you to be signed into origin either way.

All this is getting rather silly.
You people "modifying " the game to get the dlc you should be paying for on steam, are essentially risking your accounts being permanently banned for what?

a badge?

mhmm.

So basically what your saying is id have to leave origin installed have 2 versions of the game installed just to play on steam? Whats the point of having it on steam i may as well just get a refund because i wanted to play on steam but i thought id be able to access all my DLC I have spent allot of money on DLC already. To make people buy it all again thats a bit greedy why should someone have to buy something that they already own just to be able to use a different launcher.

The fact that you'll have to buy it again if you want it here probably isn't going to change, not because it's EA but because they're a company that needs to make money. You will need to keep Origin installed, but you don't need two versions of the game installed.

Uninstall the original version, and install it via Steam and activate it to the correct Origin account. Now in Origin you will have a Steam version of the game which can also have all the DLC installed onto it through Origin, not Steam itself. Steam will launch this version. Yes you do need Origin installed still, but I don't even notice it when I play the game. It appears for about a split second when I launch the game, and then it's minimised, and it closes itself after I close the game.

I mean you're right that it's not actually "transferred", but it does work with no modification. Launching it here launches the Steam version in Origin, which has access to all the same DLCs you already own you just need to download them onto that version and uninstall the old one. I literally did nothing to my game other than install the DLCs again.
FairlyGrimm Jul 9, 2020 @ 3:52pm
Its just rather silly to have to keep the origin launcher installed if your not even going to use it. I personally just like the way steam works better and like to have all my games on one launcher but what can you do right. I like the way Bethesta handled moving fallout 76 to steam they offered it free to everyone who owned the game for x period of time. Say what you will but at least they were allot less greedy in this case. I know it could be done EA could have offered the same thing to everyone who owned the game and DLC's. I'm just hoping sims 5 will come out on steam right away and that i can replace sims 4 with it and not have to deal with the origin launcher anymore.

or, you can purchase dlc on Steam, no download it, copy the serial number, open origin, reedem the code and download in origin

You may ask what the sense of have TS4 in steam?
At least for latam countries, it matters as at steam can buy with your local currency
