With this game, you need to turn off any software that might be overlaying you game feed for some reason. So - if you have GeForce Experience, go to settings and disable game overlay. If you have MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner installed, turn them off. Also you might want to run Steam as an administrator and turn on your antivirus' gaming mode on. That seems to be the only way how to get the game to stop stuttering.

it was like that for me. have a 4k rig and it ran like crap, the thing that fixed it for me was to go into game files and delete "shadow cache" folder.. then verify the game files and it sorted it for me. some cut scenes still have the odd stutter. but gameplay wise, it works fine for me

Did all of that already, the game couldn't have cared less.

Don't have Afterburner or RivaTuner.

Ouch. I see. In that case, it seems like there might something wrong with the shaders like Mr. Pink said. If his advice won't help, however, I think you might unfortunately have to settle for running it in a lower resolution. This game is horrendously optimized for PC. Good luck in any case.

Did that too, once again the game didn't care.

Imagine that, a 6900€ gaming laptop that can easily keep up with any other laptop out there and even Tower PCs can't run this game at all because of bad optimization... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incredible.

This game runs at 2 SPF on ultra settings and 16-21 FPS on low settings...

So running the game on low settings isn't an option either unless I wanna watch a slideshow.

The game ran as expected for me and my PC, I'd say the game is mildly demanding. but even a modern mig-range PC should have no problem running it.

Oh for a solution:

I made a guide covering solutions provided by Quantic Dream Support: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3009662316

There also is a big discussion about fixes other people had. Ultimately only the things in my guide made a lasting difference:

Tried that already, the game couldn't have cared less.

What graphics card do you have? I didnt see any on your profile.

So you have constant low FPS but without lag spiks / stuttering?

May I ask why you purchased a laptop if you are interested in serious gaming?

And I beg of you --- please do not hand me the dishonest line about "not having room for a desktop".

Click on "View more info", on my profile; all my specs are in there.

To answer your question, my laptop is equipped with an RTX 3080Ti.

try disabling/uninstalling Sound Card:• Nahimic (Steelseries)

or try clean booting your laptop

My fix from the "Massive frame rate drops" thread. For me it has worked pretty much like a miracle:

ADDITIONAL FIX:

After doing all the steps in the video, I was still getting major stuttering in many areas.

Once you launch the game and reach the main menu, press ctrl-alt-del. In the Task Manager, switch to the Details tab and scroll down and right click on DetroitBecomeHuman.exe then select Set Affinity. In the list, switch off CPU 0, 1, 2 and 3. This assumes you have a quad core CPU. If you have more, you might need to experiment with how many cores to disable.

You will need to do this each time you launch the game, but so far this has removed the stuttering for me.

Tested on my 4770k, 980ti with driver 531.79, using the chapter "Fugitives" as a test as it was previously stuttering all over the place, even just opening the door to the laundromat or looking in the washing machine.

It won't harm to check it manually anyway. Like I say for me it has really been night and day difference.

have you checked Event Viewer for any error reports

Yes, but nothing that seems to be related to the game, only the usual windows error reports that appear every now and then.

Some are log errors, others are related to kernel stuff.

Unfortunately the game crashes to desktop without any error report or log being created.

now that the lag has fixed "itself".

have you tried the other crash fixes again?

If you are experiencing strange sudden fps drops, i found the solution on reddit (from user FunkyRider) which works for me. Time to time delete cache shaders and re-generate it automatically. So "Go to the game folder (where your game is installed), del'ete ShaderCache/VkPipelineCache.bin and VkPipelineCache.bak, then run the game and let it re-generate all shader code."

"If you are using AMD graphics card, go to C:\Users\{your name}\AppData\Local\AMD\VkCache and delete everything there too."
