Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition

GTA 4 GTX 770 LAG
So I recently bought myself a new graphics card (GeForce GTX 770), a beast on all games, compared to my previous 9800GTX+. Unfortunately, GTA is not as friendly as most games. With my previous card I had 80 fps on medium settings @ 1024x768. Now, on medium @ 1280x720 I get 30-40. On a card that can run BF3 1080p max with 60+ fps. Anyone know what the problem is?

You need to just bite the bullet and upgrade that cheap laptop you're running. o.O

Yeah, that one. ;)

Just google something like "gta iv low fps high end" or search for those on steam discussions..and then explain why everyone does have problems with it. It might run well but also might not. That's GTA IV. Even a friend of mine has got GTX660TI + i5 2500k and he got 20 fps on lowest..but in other games 60fps on 1080p maxed out..

btw, this benchmark in game is retarded. I had 60 fps on high details during benchmark since the streets were empty etc but in game fps was under 30...they could make a real benchmark with full streets of cars, peds etc and in all wheaters.
Anyway, i recently downgraded the game to 1.0.4.0 and now running on all high + very high shadows on 40 fps. 40 isn't much but in this game it feels really great, even 35 is fine for me. And no, i don't care about multiplayer.
FYI, you can replace the benchmark clip with any video clip that you want... but that laptop of yours is still going to underperform. Time for an upgrade.

It's just because gta iv got an unstable graphic engine. Also, 30-40 fps it's still lovely playable.

meh..i won't upgrade just because of one crappy optimized game. I have 40-60 FPS in all other games on high/highest settings which is ok for me..im not playing games all the day anyway so it's just enough for me.
it matters on how much it will take up on your cpu so try getting a i7-4770k it helps and it not used up to much cpu usage 50 to 60 usage i get on the game and have a minimal of 60 to 70 frames and i have a gtx 660
sorry for improper grammar
GTA IV IS THE MOST HORRIBLE CONSOLE PORT AND IT'S NOT WORKING SMOOTH ON ANY MACHINE WITH FULL HD RESOLUTION
To anyone who says it doesn't work smooth on any machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXh1GKVKJbk
there's no prove data written down is correct
min: 42. smooth is 60+ not 42. this is fps drops and it hapens a ll the time. finish the game and you will see it will go lower than 42
+ resolution is lower than full hd
Okay, it may not be smooth but the resolution is above FULL HD. Full HD is 1920x1080, he (or she) is running it at 2560x1440.

This is pretty much fake, i see those ugly shadows, they are on medium and maybe other big fps-eater effects like view distance and object detail aren't on max.
Here you have full hd and maxed out

Anyway, i'm gonna repeat again, this game works different on different PCs, you simply can run it or no.

It's your graphics card problem. GTA 4 has fps drop problem with all GTX cards . I have 3 gtx 980 ti in Sli but at some location like hatton garden I get fps drop. But with 4 GB gt 610 ddr3 card I never get fps drop at hatton garden. I hope u understand. So u have to choose any gt card out there having 2gb vram and gddr5 and a good processor having quad core with hyperthreading and @4.5 GHz.
