GTA 4 Not Launching!

Ok so i bought GTA 4 and when i try running it nothing happens...

Similar issue to you all. Running Windows 8 64 bit, get to the launcher for social club, login (tried both offline and normal) and nothing happens.

When I went into steamapps/common/Grandtheftautoiv/GTAIV and run as admi, it just pops up an error:
GTAIV.EXE - Ordinal not found
The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Windows\System32\xlive.dll

This leads me to believe I'm going to be forced into downloading a Windows Live client. Thoughts? Solutions?

i got windows 8. on my windows 7 it worked perfectly. its something up with the social club. any suggestions?

downloding the latest windows live client (which support windows 8 64 bit) solve the problem..now i can run GTA IV just fine..

or when it crashes you can just click "see problem resolution" or w/e with microsoft. IT will link you to a download on MS website just download the patch and it will be fine

i am having the same problem im getting a little pissed off it just wont work

all you have to do is make a desktop icon and right click it then choose run as administrator

Ive already tried everything! I already have Games for Windows and ive already tried running it has administrator!

I have dual-boot Windows 7/8...On Windows 7 it worked without problems. Windows 8 the same problem. Anything happens... Uninstall Games for windows and install it again... Then it works fine... no start-options, no administration.... Do
only that!!!

well it makes sense, when you don't have this client, the GTAIV.exe just wont start. Note: steam don't install this client after it installs the game.

Ive unistalled Games for Windows and re installed it god knows how many times :/

there are a few other fixes you could try:

Start GFWL and sign in, and left it open whilst trying to boot the game.

Or

Deleting settings.cfg before starting could fix it. It's worth a shot. The path in Windos 7 is C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings

Or

Right click the game on your library, go down to properties, click launch options then type in
-safemode (hypen included)
