GTA IV , graphics problem

Hi , when i go the the graphics settings i cant chage any thing , it keeps the resolution on 800x600 , and all the other things on Low (i have the amd 7970 , and i run all my games on ultra even bf3 with no problems) and when i try to change somthing its like freez on low :(

yeah same here and most of us that have video cards with 2 gigs or more it will do this. I tried to find a fix but none of them work. I'm trying to get a refund from steam but its not going to well and they locked my account.

If your graphics card has 2GB or more of VRAM, you need to launch the game with the following command lines (just cut & paste):

-nomemrestrict -norestrictions

Tried that and it still didn't work. Rock star just needs to fix this

You're welcome. You'll still see the red text and the dire warning message on the Graphics setting screen, but the workaround will allow will remove the resource constraint and allow you to change your graphics settings.

Yeah thats it I'm a horrible PC user and my GTX 680 4gig Video card is a pile of crap along with the rest of my 1800$ PC or maybe rock star should learn how to make a game for PC jack ***.

edite the commandline.txt with:

-width 1920
-height 1080
-percentvidmem 3.0

If you have anything over 3GB GTA IV wigs out. It's cap is 2GB. I have a 7970. What resolved it for me was to simply place a txt file in the folder where my GTA exe was located:
Name the txt: commandline
Inside the txt put: -availablevidmem 2.0

That forced GTA IV to think your graphics card is only 2GB (which again, is the cap) and voila, everything is unlocked and fine.

yah i have a pretty high end computer and it cant run Gta4 when it can run any other game i like
