Moved from xlive to dsound, how do I restore my savegames?
I've used xlive.dll before so I've played without GFWL and used "different" savegames. I now have to switch to dsound.dll but since I have to log into GFWL I can't use my savedgames.
Is there a way to restore them and make them work with my GFWL account?

I don't think so. You can't even swap savegames between gfwl accounts cause they're encrypted or something.

Johnny do not answer unless you know... xlive removes the need for the encryption and makes saves universal... dsound as well...
c:/documents and settings/local settings/Application Data/Rockstar games/gta iv/savegames they should be here remember to turn on hidden files and folders before looking

I don't think dsound makes savegames universal since it doesn't disable GFWL.
When I try to swap saves and try to load them in-game with my offline GFWL account, it says "error loading game", something like that.

the point of these is to kill the need for gfwl, when i used liveless i didnt need an offline account, gfwl didnt even load... I can give you the detailed instructions if youd like to see... I ll look at dsound but pretty sure it does the same, I ve used it but I liked xlive-less (why is xlive full name censored? wtf really?)better and now Im playing with no game altering mods so I dont even need either one

Pretty sure dsound doesn't kill gfwl (unless I'm using the wrong one?), in fact it's necessary for the modders who play multiplayer.
I heard dsound has better performance than xlive to prevent my game from crashing to desktop, so that's why I want to give it a go, but savegames are a problem.

I ll put this here and head to bed.. it may help OP and others with dsound issues, Most of the issues have to deal with the wrong scripthook.asi or the UAC locking the files down..

PERMANENTLY AVOID THE ERROR AND that pesky UAC that always asks "are you sure you want to put this file here? I can't allow it unless you say so"
