That's little information, but if it's the "check your storage device" error message, it's generally Microsoft OneDrive:

I had his problem once, despite being on linux. Restarted the game and haven't encountered it since, though I make sure to save now after every mission.

On Linux, Proton simulates a Windows-style filesystem layout in a private, per-game manner. The current GTA4 edition saves to under %USERPROFILE%/Documents/Rockstar Games/ -- and I expect then that for you that game-private %USERPROFILE%/Documents didn't even exist yet until you restarted.

Anycase; thanks, good point perhaps to add in the case of Linux / Steam Deck...

I'm not on steam deck but yeah, what you said makes sense I guess. Game works just fine now though. Are you on linux or windows?

I (mind you, not thread-starter) can be on either.

Well -- for GTA4 at those times that the current version of the Rockstar Games Launcher works with the current version of Proton running atop the current version of Mesa and/or the current versions of X11 or Wayland sitting on the current kernel version on my current hardware.
please tell me how to fix it anyone ? using windows 11

Then it's likely Microsoft OneDrive indeed, and the way to fix it will likely be to tell Microsoft Onedrive to go violently ♥♥♥♥ itself, i.e., to try and be rid of it; disable it, or reconfigure it to not sit on your Documents/ folder, or uninstall it, or...

<shrug>

As per the in #1 linked reply it also tends to work to create a new, local, administrator-level Windows user account and run the game from that.

Actually not really. I'm a Linux user; have only one (older) Windows system around.

To uninstall OneDrive, Microsoft says:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0
Select the Start button, type Programs in the search box, and then select Add or remove programs in the list of results.

[ ... ]

Under Apps & features, find and select Microsoft OneDrive, and then select Uninstall. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Be sure to reboot (not shutdown and restart, but actually reboot) the system after uninstalling OneDrive.

I can not assure you it'll help; have seen some indications that it's going to still leave some redirection in place which even if then no longer functional still has GTA4 trip -- but again no personal experience, so just try I guess.
