For the same reason the GTA IV fanboys hate on GTA V. Regardless of what game is truly better, they are blinded by nostalgia as you said. Take a look at the GTA IV subreddit, it's like a cult that attacks anyone who dares mention GTA V.

I am just gonna say, personally I don't remember seeing GTA 4 fans attacking GTA 5 fans, I only saw some people saying that GTA 4 is better than GTA 5 and they listed reasons why they think so, you are just probably annoyed by the fact that some people find older game better than newer one

First gta I played was gta. Also played III, vice city, san andreas, IV and V, and I think IV is the best.
