Updated Title: Possible Steamworks integration - Issues with GfWL

Update (21/01/2015): This place has pretty much turned into a trouble shooting hub so soon (not now as I have an assload of school work) I will *attempt* to make a community guide with fixes for as many issues reported as possible. Users will be encouraged to report their problems as well as their fixes.

UPDATE (23/07/2014): It's must past the scheduled shut down and everything still appears to be in tact, GfWL is still running and multiplayer functions fine, aside from a couple of complaints of not being able to login, but these could be typical. Looks like the game is fine, for now. Guess this thread isn't as urgent anymore:

NOTE: Some of this information is out of date or irrelevant now, but I'm leaving this up (both the thread and the previous post) anyway due to reports of issues with GfWL not working for them and because who the hell doesn't want GTA IV integreated into Steamworks? I am aware that the first petition is closed and the 2nd is almost complete and is sort of irrelevant now, I'm going to get in contact with the creator of the first petition and ask him if he'd like to reboot it as a way to get the game integrated into Steamworks - not because GfWL is shutting down, but because it is a clunky, unreliable and broken service. Otherwise, consider this thread to pay homage to our efforts and/or to discuss/complain/troubleshoot GfWL

Previous post - everything below this post was the old one prior to editing this (except for the 23/07/2014 update which was moved from the bottom of the post to the top of this one):
GfWL is being shut down, and unless R* decides to remove GfWL from the game, multiplayer will die, please sign these petitions asking for R* to migrate the game to SteamWorks. There are also other possible "side effects" of GfWL being shut down, but multiplayer dying is the main issue and is guaranteed unless R* decides to remove it.

More stuff (12/06/2014): It is June the 12th, two days after the GameSpy server closures and multiplayer is still running. Either R* made adjustments or GameSpy wasn't involved with PC to begin with (still unsure but I don't think it was). So now we just have to wait and see about any news regarding GfWL, although this tweet has surfaced: https://twitter.com/Brav/status/474374422262845440
Pretty reliable coming from a member of the 343 industries team, but I wouldn't count on it (yet). Some say GfWL is not around to stay and they're just prolonging it so that developers can make adjustments cough cough. Regardless this could mean GfWL is here to stay, it will be around for longer, or the tweet just isn't true. Guess we'll have to wait and see for further information.

WTF? He says it does run. And with 'Mods' (Plural) I didn't mean only xliveless wtf is so hard to understand there.

Did you even read the thread? 31 pages btw, lol no you didnt because then you had read that nobody had eflc running with XLiveLess v0.999b7 with GTA IV v1.0.7.0 and EFLC 1.1.2.0. Yeah Xliveless worked in the past now it don't. Reading is hard for some. Next time try to read the whole thread and not only the starting post from 29 May 2010.

Last GFWL made GTA IV unplayable again. Tired of double DRM, tired of having to find new methods to make games i purchased actually work. This isn't the player's job to make games work.

Have you thought about the number of messsages popular youtubers get? Most of them have probably just stopped trying to look through them.

As I said above, GTA IV doesn't work without Xliveless, for which I have to use another Launcher

Actually, with Xliveless, I just press play on Steam and that works, no separate launcher. Xliveless is just a DLL that you put into your main folder and press play, no biggie. Check out my account. 50 hours with Xliveless.
Note:
* run LaunchGTAIV.exe instead of GTAIV.exe (to prevent "drunk" camera)

After a lot of testing if finally got EFLC working with GTA IV v1.0.7.0 and EFLC 1.1.2.0 and XLiveLess v0.999b7. This is on Windows 8.1 update 1 x64.

Sorry about being dismissive about it ;-)

Here is what i did:

Before installing GTA IV and EFLC, i replaced "gfwlivesetup.exe" in the installers directory:

"\Grand Theft Auto IV\Installers"
"\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\Installers"

with an empty dummy file. Just make an empty notepad file and rename this to "gfwlivesetup.exe"

Now GFWL isnt installed when you first run GTA IV or EFLC. Yippy no strange microsoft virus on your computer anymore ;-)

Copy the Xliveless dll "xlive.dll" to the following folders:

"\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV"
"\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\EFLC"

Run GTA IV from steam library and activate it until you get in game, exit game.
Run EFLC from steam library and activate it until you get in game, exit game.

To run GTA IV with Xliveless and without drunkcamera run:

"\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe"

To run EFLC with Xliveless and without drunkcamera run:

"\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\EFLC\LaunchEFLC.exe"

*note1, If you run "LaunchGTAIV.exe" and try to run EFLC from the selection menu it doesnt work, it only works if you run LaunchEFLC.exe.

*note2, you can also rename "Paul.dll" This prevents the RSCG popup at startup.

I don't have drunk camera. Maybe because I downgraded to v1.0.4.0.
Really? I have downgraded to v1.0.4.0 too and have the drunk camera... Weird

Out of like the 50 I've messaged now ranging from 5k up? Someone has to respond, but nothing. I also messaged people beyond youtube but other contact links as well.
