Missing menu letters

Hi, I needed to rollback from version 1.07 to 1.04 to get an ENB at optimal quality. I sucessfully accomplished this, and started up GTA4. I was presented with apalling Resolution (800x600) and no main menu text (I used this guide for assistence: http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128300)

I then realised that I was using Xliveless, and there were additional steps I must follow. I replaced the bugged and atrocious font with a supposedly "good" one linked. Now, I finally had some text, but it was only the first letter of each option in the menu. I tried to change settings in the "O" option (undoubtly options tab) and the game wouldn't let me. Frustrated and numb with pain, I trekked to the streets of Hove Beach, only for near-puking out of the horrible graphics amd the fact I couldn't change them. My game then crashed. Does anyone know any alternative ways to fix this besides reinstalling the game? (I worked all day on these issues and I don't want to reinstall).

I had a problem where my whole game was invisible all characters, hud and map so it might be similar but not sure. Try launching the game either from your desktop shortcut or in the game folder rather than through the steam libarary also try these commands put them in launch options:
-availablevidmem 60.0 [or 30.0 or 20.0 etc depends on your computer specs]
-nomemrestrict
-norestrictions

I actually just tried those. Could they cause further bugs? It allowed me to actually change graphical settings, however. I have no blips on my HUD, or no available missions, but I still see NPCs walking around.

I don't know what the problem is though. I downloaded and replaced the fonts. It still didn't bring the text back.

Try verify game cache you never know it might work.

I can't do that because it will give me a another copy of the 1.107 patch I tried so hard to get rid of.

It's because it's changed the files Fonts_r.dat and Fonts.dat explained here:

And here's the fix: {LINK REMOVED}http://www.mediafire.com/download/5uir1kv5pbsqrca/fonts.zip then put them in your: C:\Program Files (86x)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV\common\data folder

Have Games With Windows Live Marketplace running and minimized in the background, go into your gta4 directory: Steam/SteamApps/Common/GrandTheftAutoIV/GTAIV , from there look for LaunchGTAIV.exe. Right-click and run it as administrator.

That isn't effective because I'm using Xliveless, which disables Games for Windows Live.

That's strange. I've long given up on GTAIV, sorry. I am unsure if I would be able to track down a lot of this stuff again (probably no longer hosted anywhere).
