GTA IV on Windows 10
Hello All,
As the title says, I am trying to play with GTA IV on Windows 10.

My specs are:

Dell Inspiron 3537
i7-4500U; 8GB DDR3L; HD8850M etc.

There were no problems on W7, but now the welcome screen is the basic (no chance to start the expansion) and I can't set the graphics settings higher than: 800x600 + low preset. WTF!?

The memory is reported to be 200 something megabytes and "-norestrictions -nomemrestrict" does not work that good -Textures are not loaded, every building is transparent.

Drivers are obviously suspicious, because Windows 10 automatically updates it.

Currently I am re-installing the game, maybe it'll help.

Any other thoughts?

I'm also having this issue as well, don't really have the option to re-install the game at the moment, spent hours DL'ing it in the first place.

I currently get the error SecuLauncher failed to start application [2000].

Looks like we won't be playing for a while. Re-installing did not help for me.

Got it running in the end, uninstall GFWL, install it from Google, latest version and run in Windows 7 compatibility mode

Try uninstalling and re-installing your graphic drivers.

Here is a Link to the Dell Drivers[www.dell.com] set for your laptop.

Did you do an OS upgrade? Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Thank you, but I can't disable Windows Updates. It will reinstall the drivers provided by Microsoft.

Already did that. I have 10 Education, clean install.

Verify Integrity of Game Cache is not always that great, if the files are 'there' it won't just update them - so if there's a problem with one of the files this won't solve it, a reinstall will. You could try deleting the GTAIV exe and then doing it, see if reacquiring then fixes the issue.

Again though, the issue for me seemed to be compatibility settings and making sure GFWL was uninstalled and then updated properly

UPDATED!!!!!!
Updated again! !)
Updated a 3rd time!

READ THIS POST!
the top is for tablet and the bottom is for pc. and the middle is what truly fixed this game and all 16 other games from steam.

This works in windows 10 on my tablet.
no installing extra crap that can take up precious space, It is in compatibility mode for win7. I just downloaded the game from steam and did what i have typed out here.
I am running gta4 on win10 on my nextbook tablet mentioned below it has been upgraded to win10. Please read and understand this guide before you do this. THIS IS A THREE STEP SOLUTION.

INPORTANT: DO NOT SET YOUR MULTIPLYER TO 275.0 AS TALKED ABOUT BELOW. START AT 1.0 AND WORK YOUR WAY UP BY ALTERING
THE COMMANDLINE.TXT DOCUMENT AND THE DESKTOP SHORTCUT TOGETHER WITH THE SAME NUMBER. you can copy and paste from this guide.

Hi everyone!
So for people using an HP21-h013w touchscreen pc running windows 10 if you are having problems with this game and others you can always try a fresh install of win10. it took 3 tries to get win10 to install correctly. It would seem that Microsoft is having issues with this new OS. I did not have to do anything to this game to get it to run on win10. It just needs win10 to be installed correctly, and the stuff that steam gives out with this download for the first time run setup. no setting windows compatibility. no downloading extra stuff. However I still have to use the " -availablevidmem 17.0 -nomemrestrictions -norestrictions " command line you can enter using steam. WINDOWS10 IS THE ISSUE. Steam has done a good job with this game. Maybe update the GFWL File that comes with this game, but i didnt have to. Awsome Job Steam!!! BOOO for Microsoft! A fresh install of Windows10 has helped all of my games from steam. I haven't had to download anything to run games.
This is what finaly worked for me in the end everything else was anger managment testing. Hope this helps.

STEP 1
sepcs arent really a problem. memory and processor are. if your not using a multicore processor then this game wont run, period. if you do have multicore tech and have windows 8.1 or 10 or windows whatever in order to get it to run you need to open "notepad" and type the following:
-availablevidmem 275.0 -nomemrestrictions -norestrictions
Then save as: commandline.txt

STEP 2
This just as simple: create a desktop shortcut. Find the document tittled "LaunchGTAIV.exe" in your steam folder, then copy it and paste it to your desktop.
the full path is something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV"
then right click the new desktop shortcut and click on properties. in this window you will need to find "Target" (lacated in the "shortcut" tab in the menu) and enter the following in that field it must be identical to what is below:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\comon\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -availablevidmem 275.0 -nomemrestrictions -norestrictions

IMPORTANT NOTE: the number 275.0 is a multiplyer for MY pc. it gives me more than 2 gigs of video ram to run gta 4 with. my pc only has 24mb of video ram, you should start with 1.0 and work your way up, dont set the number to high or it will break your machine. dont go as high as i did. at the highest it should only be set to 10.0 or 20.0. do not change or take out the .0 or it no longer works properly!!

STEP 3
Add your shortcut to steam through the "add a game" button at the bottom of your steam window OR dont add it and just use the shortcut you created on you desktop and run it offline and disconnected from the internet so you can disable your antivirus and have that much more preformance.

In order for this game to work your specs must be a multicore processor @ 2ghz or faster, and 2 gigs of ram any sound card and any gpu. the pc i run it with has intell hd graphix and a dule core processsor @ 2.6ghz and 4 gig of ram. it runs in 1280 by 720 with grafix set almost maxed. shadows can be turned off to make it run better, if needed. this fix works on my windows tablet as well, but the number is WAY lower than 275.0 and allows me to play gta4 on my tablet with graphix set to mediums. my tablet is a nextbook flexx 11, a budget tablet, i was surprized to find that a tablet can run this game. this super simple fix isnt recomended by any pc maker or steam but it works, and it works well. i havent had any problems in months running games with this fix. read about it here in the steam forums. Happy gaming! and dont touch your gpu! let it sit how it came.

WARNING: THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES THIS PROBLY WONT CAUSE, but could burn out your gpu, cpu, or ram. I AM NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DECISIONS. this fix worked for me.cc

For PC's running Windows 10, I had to do the following:

Start by removing the old version of gta4 and reinstall. i know it takes like 4.5 to 12 hours to download. it sucks trust me. i let it download while i slept. then i did the next 5 steps:

Step 1 do all the above stuff i mentioned for tablets if you dont have a decent gpu (or if you have 2+gigs of video ram)

Step 2 reinstall all of your visual c++ redist in "programs and features"

Step 3 uninstall GFWL and reinstall the Newest version.

Step 4 set to windows7 compatibility mode

Step 5 And finally for whatever reason i also have to run it as administrator, so right click the desktop shortcut tittled "LaunchGTAIV-shortcut" and select "run as administartor" and adjust graphics settings to their proper levels and play the game.

this worked for me. But does not work for every PC or tablet. hope it works for you too. happy gaming! it should also work for windows 8.1 users since most of this is done for that version of windows too.

I totally re-installed the game, after an integrity check. Did not work.

Looks like "-availablevidmem 20.0" did the trick for me. Did not need to install other stuff.

Thank you for your help guys!

if you right click on the game in steam, go to properties, and set launch options, you will get a thingy pop up. just put your monitor's resolution like so, -h 1920 -w 1080 and you should be allright.
