How do I install mods?

I just wanted 3 mods for gta and I can't figure out where to put all the mod files. Can someone help me with this?

Well, first it depends on the version of your game. Up to date steam version is always 1.0.7.0, so you must look for mods under that version. Second. you need to install the following; ASI Loader, Scripthook and .NET Scripthook. Also, patch 1.0.4.0 is the best version for mods.

ASI Loader - http://dev-c.com/gtaiv/asiloader

Scripthook/.Net SH - http://www.hazardx.com/dl.php?file=83&fileversion=13&did=4cef5b5e (For 1.0.7.0.)

Script/Player/Skin/Vehicle/Other - http://www.gta4-mods.com/

Open IV - http://openiv.com/

NOTE: ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR GTA IV FOLDER BEFORE YOU MODIFY ANY GAME FILES!

Step 1: Make a new folder under the following line; C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV.

Step 2: Make sure you ran the game at least once. Download the files from the above links.

Step 3: Extract the contents of the zip above in to their own sepreate folders on the desktop. Now go to the this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.

Step 4: Press Ctrl + A and copy and paste all the files in the folder to the new one you made on step 1.

Step 5: open up the scripthook folder, drag and drop the files into the folder from step 1. (same with asiloader)

You should now have the following : dsound.dll, scripts folder, scripthook.dll and scripthooknet.asi. along with the gta iv files.

First, lets make sure your game works. go to the folder on step 1, look for LaunchGTAIV.exe (right click) make shortcut (send to desktop) Right click on shortcut (run as administrator)
If the game launches, you're in the clear. if you get an error, Retry the steps above.

Now, time to install some mods! for script mods. Place the files in the scripts folder, (make sure you read and follow what the readme(s) tell you to do.) yes, just exclude OPEN IV.

Is the Downgradable still possible with the recent steam update? I want to mod the game, but unsure if it's possible because of the recent update.

I want to downgrade to 1.0.4.0 for specific Graphics and Texture mods.

I'm honestly not sure about that. I don't see why it wouldn't work though. If someone else knows the answer to this question, it would be nice to know.

so i did all the steps but when i try to run with administrator nothing happens, the prompt comes up to click "play" then nothing. no error or anything, just nothing happens and the game doesn't run.

I honestly have no idea, but perhaps someone else knows.

Also, I have to admit, still seeing replies to this thread every now and then, given how old it is, amuses me. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I just laugh because it's like a time machine to the past me.
