GTA IV Not Compatable With Windows 10?
I keep trying to launch GTA IV to play it, but I keep getting an error that "Microsoft DirectX Cannot Install As It's Not Compatable With Your Version Of Windows" It's really annoying because I bought both IV and Episodes a while back and am just getting around to playing them, but am unable to. Are there any known fixes or did I waste my money because Steam didn't care to tell me the game isn't capable of being played on Windows 10? :steamfacepalm:

Try installing DirectX 9.0c.

Sorry, probably should have linked it:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

9.0c, legacy DirectX. It won't replace your current DirectX installation or your compatibility with new games, it just adds support for DX9.

Well, the DirectX error is gone, but now it comes up saying this:
"A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (8016)."
It then gives a link that says pretty much the same thing.

Try running as an administrator. Also, this game uses Flash for its interface.

It's something called "SecuroRom" that is failing to launch. I've never heard of such a program.

SecuROM is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ DRM service that smoked optical disc drivers (on retail games) breaking your CD-ROM drives, limited you to a certain number of activations, and got abandoned later on. All thanks to your favorite frauds at Sony Austria.

There is one way to bypass the SecuROM issue, turn your computer's clock back to before 2015 before running the game for the first time. After that, it should be verified.

Otherwise, like Crysis Warhead, you may have to look for the "fixed" EXE on Rockstar's website.

GTA IV from what? Steam or Retail Disc?

Newly installed OS then u need the following installed:
- .NET Framework ~ in Win10 u do this by going to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On/Off and tick the boxes for .NET and ASP frameworks; then click OK to install them, then it will ask you from where, select Windows Updates.
- DirectX Redist (June 2010)
- Visual C++ Runtimes
- Adobe Flash for Other Browsers (Firefox and Chrome)

It's Steam, you can see it on his profile (0.1 hours... guess he hasn't been lucky with it yet).

I've had a nightmare of a time trying to get this game working on friends PCs (still rocking Windows 7 here).

If you're reading this and having trouble with this game on W10, just downgrade to 7, 10 offers no true advantages yet for PC gaming.
error 8016 is from using a skylake processor which SecuROM in some games is incompatible with. So the only way is to flash your MB(Which can be extremely risky) or you can use a crack which is what I'm currently doing.

Had a friend who had this issue, updating BIOS to latest fixed it.

Yeah but its risky and if you have an MSI board than Live update can do that in a simpler fashion but that doesn't always update when a new version is out. All I know is this seems to happen on certain games that have SecuROM (GTA4 and Mirrors Edge) and others that do have it but no issue (Dead Space and Mass Effect)

Just check the Webpage for the Motherboard model; don't use Live Update softwares.
And when u do update BIOS, extract the ROM file to USB Flash, enter the BIOS and update to it from the USB drive.

I know, I just don't think it should be necessary.
