Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition

The game runs impressively well.
I remember back in 2010 having an i7 2600k and GTX 480 which was way way way overkill for this game and only managing like 20-35 FPS at 1080P.

Now I can run this at crazy resolution and solid 60 FPS.
5750x3240

5800x3D
Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE
Patriot Viper 32GB DDR4 3666 CL15
ASRock B550 Extreme 4
ASUS TUF RX 7900XT OC 20GB
MSI MPG A850GF PSU

Runs n 8K pretty well too but dips to 40 FPS.

out of curiosity why are you playing a game that's over 30 yrs old?

Because of it being 15 years, not 30.
And - besides its flaws - it's still one of the best GTA ever made.
You don't need high-end graphics for good games.

It also had consistent 60 fps on highest settings on my old GTX 1650 + R5 1600 3 years ago ;-)
That's been the best performance I ever had in this games the last 15 years.

Now I have a RTX 3050 + 5700x and I had to do a lot of tweaking (like superscaling the graphics) in order to maintain a smooth experience.

But I'm still thinking about building an additional PC using the old hardware for older games.
The combinatation of bboth GTX 1650+1600 was an absolute dreamteam.
Yeah, I just installed it. I remember having to use a mod to fix this game. Now it runs pretty good. I came to forums to see if a recent update fixed things.

I'm on a 3080ti, i910900k, 32gb ram,

before I was on the same set up but with a 2080. That was last year and it ran really bad, like a lot of stuttering. The 2080 had me playing red dead 2 and GTA V no problem so I know the change of the card isn't what fixed it.

Guess rockstar finally optimized this game? idk.
I just remembered why I also had the D.E.P. mod running and why I installed it again... because they removed a lot of the original music.
why am I playing such an old game?
1: I just played through the remaster of Vice city & San andreas
2: I am having fun trying out games with a potato I built for free
3: GTA V uses too much storage space on my potato

how does GTA IV run on a potato?
pretty damn good

i5-2500, GTX 660ti, 8gig slow DDR3, 250 gig SSD
old 1080p TV, all parts scavenged for free

Right. It could run on a toaster.
AFAIK original requiremrnt were like 256 MB of VRAM and an Intel centrino dualcore.
I used the original game to play on a office notebook from 2009 ^^

when they updated/downgraded? GTA IV, they revised the system specs to match GTA V
steam never updated the requirements, but you can check the rockstar page for the revised specs

A 660 Ti is faster then a GTX 480 and even that can't max GTA IV out. 660 Ti for GTA IV is not a potato, way way way above it's needed spec.

Well, game was developed for 30fps anyways, so the differens wasn't that harsh unless you were on the "times square".

GTA4 had always performance issues, even back in time, even on high end machines.
It didn't make a huge difference what rig you own.
You only had the choice between heavy stuttering or less stuttering.
We all knew that we don't play GTA because of graphics and issues were always expected.

the GTA IP was never known for great graphics, no matter on which platform.
But we simply didn't care that time because it was GTA.

People were more relaxed than nowadays and our mindset was different that time.

Who cares about current PC standards if you want to play a 15 year old game?
Actually, without the need of mods, this game runs even better on older hardware than it does on current one
