Liberty City Minute (GTA IV Achievement)

The achievement objective is to beat the story missions in 30 hours or less. Does that timer restart if I start a new game?
I'd like to play the game normally and go for this achievement on a second playthrough, but I'm worried that the time won't reset and I'll be permanently locked out of the achievement. Does anyone know if that happens?

Each save has its own timer. The achievement tracks the ingame time that you can check from the stats.
