Whenever I try to open GTA IV, both by steam and by the Rockstar launcher, the game reports me the error:
Your Social Club profile does not have data saved on disk for Grand Theft Auto IV. Would you like to fetch existing saved data from Games For Windows - Live on your computer?
When I click cancel, the game does not open.
When I click ok, the message appears:
- Games for Windows - LIVE saved data for Grand Theft Auto IV could not be found, and the game also will not open.

In other words, I can't open GTA IV at all.

windows 10? if so try controlled folder access and see if it blocked gta

Disable the Rockstar Cloud, this should do the trick.

That's odd, i remember the option but can't find it anymore.
I remember to have disabled the option because it was causing me issues with my saves, but it's gone. Mybe i'm misremembering or has been removed.

[Edit] Apparently I had some ancient mod in the install directory, that Steam wasn't removing. Got rid of that and the game launched.

i just bought it in rockstar games launcher and i can't save my progress it says the same thing (Your Social Club profile does not have data saved on disk for Grand Theft Auto IV) how did you fix it? please help.

I think it's funny how people was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ so bad about "baww but no cloud muh cloud saves" acting like Rockstar was at fault for not enabling it and somehow it was their fault these people kept uninstalling their game and erasing their saves, then R* enables it, and promptly proceeds to cause more problems than not having it like me losing a whole day of progress unknowingly because when I logged out the stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cloud erased all the saves I had on disk and replaced it with the cloud saves I had near beginning of the game, which of course cloud doesn't have my new ones. So now I am stuck on perpetually backing up my saves because I'm afraid something will happen again and I don't know how to erase my saves in cloud storage. I'd like to erase my three saves in cloud. I know right now it's a ticking time bomb that's going to go off again someday and replacing all my progress again. I hope I remember, if I move to a new machine in several years, NOT to allow cloud saves anywhere at all and be sure to disable that.

Also their insistence of having the extra launcher, that part is definitely Rockstar's fault. Any company that forces people to add another layer of launchers should be grilled. At least if you force it, let me pay for your game through your site and not have anything to do with steam. I hate this place passionately and don't want to rely on it for playing my games. It's just a lot of other companies use launchers too for some reason like when in the ♥♥♥♥ did it even become deemed necessary to have an application whose sole purpose is literally doing what I did in 1999 and doubleclicking an .exe icon?
