I bought it today and I can not even save the progress. I try to google, youtube, reinstall but nothing happened. Somebody help please

Well...did you check your storage device? How much free space do you have on your drive, and what capacity is your drive? I don't see a Mouse icon indicating ownership—what version of GTA IV are you using? Before I bought the Steam version, I had a retail version in my Amazon game library, and still do, but it runs with HORRIBLE problems on Windows 10 with modern hardware far exceeding rollout requirements of years ago.

If that doesn't help, check if OneDrive backup of the Documents folder is enabled on your computer, if so, just turn it off, it worked for me.

Enable the "Run this program as an administrator" option in the properties of the following files

GTAIV.exe
LaunchGTAIV.exe
PlayGTAIV.exe

Hi friend in steam version following files are exist in game folder
gtaEncoder.exe
GTAIV.exe
PlayGTAIV.exe

If you use Xliveless addon....... you need to go in XLivelessAddon.ini and change the path of the save and custom setting to make them work if still don't work need to change the date to something before 2018 at least (worked for me)

Win 11. For everyone who didn't manage to resolve the issue with 'hard drive'. Try to turn off your Windows Defender or add game folder & Rockstar Games Launcher folder to exceptions. It helped me and I'm able to save my progress again.

Guys, I figured out. OneDrive mess things up by moving your Documents folder where the game expects to find them.

Normally, saves in "C:\Users\YourName\Documents"
OneDrive have changed that to "C:\Users\YourName\OneDrive\Documents"

Here's a fix: Follow instructions below to stop syncing your Documents folder with OneDrive

This way, your saves stay in the right spot and GTA 4 can find them again

OneDrive most likely indeed -- but for someone who now gets exited only to then again be disappointed: Windows Defender is the next likely culprit. See e.g.

Hey there people!
I got the same issue, win11, and I tried allowing the game.exe etc' on win defender and nothing.
Any way to solve it yet? anyone else that nothing helped?

For me:
- OneDrive was not a problem (was not syncing Documents)
- Added the folders to Defender Exceptions alone did not help
- Settings "Run as Administrator" for all users to all three executables finally solved the save issue

Probably best to do all three though if unsure
