not only that but if Rockstar isnt going to run Dedicated Servers through the GFWL system it doesnt matter if we users have the old version on PC that uses it, although they do still have to run them for the Xbox versions online to work so there are still GFWL servers to use, which shows you they arent doing this for us obviously lol
if they shut them all down for GFWL tho we need a community server option to be able to play, thats just it theres no other option unless they hook the game up to Steams API for server matchmaking, which is what they should have done from day 1 like they did with GTA5, until they also changed GTA5 a few months ago so it forces the R launcher
Alternatively, you can rename the game folder, then let Steam update nothing, and just rename your game folder back once it's done.
That's the thing. They're not running any dedicated servers. The game doesn't use any. It only uses GFWL as a master server to connect people with each other, the servers are players computer, aka Peer 2 Peer networking.
Microsoft doesn't seem interested in shutting down GFWL yet, so who knows how long it will keep running, it will definitely go past March 19th. And when it does shut down, we have an alternative set up, even running the original game modes, a friend made it work in one day on CitizenIV lol.
are you sure? im fairly certain its not just a Local Host connection through GFWL, thats why it isnt working anymore right now already, so no GFWL isnt shut down but their servers are
yes Microsoft is shutting down GFWL support i guess, so there are no servers running through it, which that doesnt mean you cant login to the system offline and play single player, but again the point was preserving online functionality for users that paid for the game product it was included with, so thats the point here they should have to release whatever type of server system they use so players and server communities could run the infrastructure for themselves and each other
i could see this happening with CitizenIV cuz it definitely does use Local Host / P2P connections
Another way to help this issue is to rail as a community for games that have LAN support. I've been talking about it for years, but sadly people to far-sighted to think strategically.
Two decades ago LAN was a mandatory feature, and you still can play those classical games in multiplayer dispute all official MP servers are long-dead.
no they cant shut down GFWL as a whole cuz users already have it installed, they are shutting down the Server access for it, so you cant play GTA 4 online on Xbox 360 right now last i checked, which only affects the older games using GFWL from the 360 days

most newer games after the Xbox One came out are using microsofts Xbox App features to run multiplayer for games, even from the Steam version which they did it right there, you launch the game and just type in your xbox account to login to its systems for that game through Steam (like Gears 5 and Halo on Steam)
no forcing you to login to Xbox App or GFWL after launching the game from Steam, of course even then they should have to release a Dedicated Server version of those games so when they inevitably shut down the servers customers and communities can host them for each other
yes all that lol, but also its about forcing users to their R launcher which they have to disconnect it from GFWL to do so, that way they can make of marketing content cuz users have to see their platform to play the game even from other platforms they bought it from, and probably data collection on players etc. which they arent even hooking up the new version to another MP system like Steam already has lol, or their launcher like they changed GTA5 to do
(or i think it does, that or GTA5 has to use the Steam API for MP and just forced the R launcher for no reason like the new GTA4 will
lol take it easy killer, i thought this was a discussion, im not ignoring you and posting video on video trying to reach other ppl in an attempt to mislead, so i think your jumping the gun there
yes they did shut down the marketplace a few years ago, but in 2020 its the actual server access now, im fairly certain theres Dedicated Servers for GTA4 online just like 5, although if there isnt that just makes it worse cuz yeah theres no reason to block it for console users lol, cuz its not like its updated and changed so they have to keep supporting it like the PC version
And put achievements as damage control measurement.
It looks more an more like ESA conspiracy to ruin old games and prevent new generation to learn that there were better quality games in the past. Before AAA conveyor belt, microtransactions and Games As A Service retardation.
Also GTAV servers are beggars cloud crap, they are not even proper dedicated servers. GTAIV MP servers are much better and allow more interaction. Also load instantaneously. Take-Two is so greedy to make most cheap and least performing cloud "servers" for GTAV.
Even better than that. RDR2 has solved loading time issues on consoles. They've improved servers and MP loads instantaneously. While PC version has same insanely long loading time as GTAV has.
k i didnt think so, i figured the R launcher in 5 was just to get users on it and see its content, while the multiplayer still uses the Steam API to make connections to their cloud system (ya horrible way to do MP for a game with shooting and fast paced gameplay)
ya thats my point really none of these devs / publishers need to pack their Uplay, Origin, R launcher etc. with their games on Steam or other platforms, they just want to get users there, this is what happens when customers accept things like Exclusive games
