Multiplayer being shut down . . .
this is why it should be a legal requirement of any online software video game to release a public Dedicated Server version of their games (like Valve did for CSS and L4D2), so if later the company shuts down online then private customers or Server Hosting Communities can download and run a dedicated server for each other to keep playing the product they paid for

unless its a MMO RPG game like Warcraft or something cuz that is a little different, although even in that situation they should have to release dedicated servers, just any community server cant take payment or even donations since the legit servers have a subscription fee

(even tho subscription games are dumb to begin with cuz these days with lootboxes, microtransactions, and all the other ways devs benefit from users playing their games, if anything they would rather make it free to keep ppl playing, but as long as ppl are willing to pay then they may as well get paid to get the benefits of users playing right? let alone they still get the up front price of the game cost too)

Yes, the MP gameplay is all peer to peer in GTA:O. Nothing you have said or have put forth changes that.

No, it's not. Multiplayer in GTA:O uses client-server model. I'm really surprised why you insisting so much to put everything upside-down. Especially how you've tried to do it with FiveM's description. But anyway. I'm not interested to waste time on you, will go forward and block you.

Now I'm sure you're trolling with stupidity. What a waste of time. :bane:
Says you.
I don't think anyone should take you seriously if you're not capable of providing evidence to back up your argument but rather dismiss what other people said as a "waste of time."
Get out of here then if you don't want your time wasted.
Sorry, I don't know you, I wasn't talking to you. It's not a very good manner to interfiere in the middle of other people's discussion.
Why can't they just patch it and build a new multiplayer ???? This is not fair! I paid for this game the day of release and still play multi, I wasn't finished with it.

They easily can, and I'm sure Rockstar would like to. But Take-Two managers prevent them doing so.

Technically it's really not that hard, and we know that R* has GTAIV source code, people who are still familiar with it. For reference many companies updated multiplayer support for their games after GameSpy been shut down.

Yes, it is. You have no credibility to say otherwise, fairy tale teller.

No they don't, that's even the wrong technical term for what R* uses for it's peer to peer in GTA:O MP. Try another fairy tale. Maybe it will work this time. You never know!

It's their own description...

Not surprised everything is upside down for you, BTW. Totally makes sense to me.

Don't provide any evidence for your baseless assertions on your way out. Bye!

LOL

Making up fairy tales again.

This is a public forum, anybody can react to everybody on everything.
holy crap i thought this thread would have ended lol, my bad i missed some

last i knew if you tried to play GTA4 on Xbox 360 right now it WONT work, that is because Rockstar the dev / publisher has stopped hosting their Dedicated Server through the MS GFWL system, so yes its shut down doesnt matter if you find a way to keep Steam from updating you

the servers arent run by MS they are run by Rockstar, just like with GTA5, although that doesnt mean if all the servers are taken that the game cant run a local host connection instead with p2p, but doesnt matter if Rockstar is shutting down functinality of their game through the platforms server system, even if it was just Local Host if they disable connections through their MP system on GFWL players still cant use it, although if it is a Local Host connection then theres 0 reason for them to turn it off and change it :rfacepalm:

like i said before it needs its platform for MP server communication if it was made for it, devs can make games not use a platform for server connection tho, so they could update this GTA4 and make it use Steam for online connections, and release dedicated servers for it and ppl could run them themselves, but they are just shutting down whats there for . . . i dont know really no reason lol, other than they dont wanna pay for the server hosting and want ppl to buy newer game version to get online play thats how they set it up for us

things like FiveM are the closest thing we have had to full support for a rockstar game allowing ppl to run a "dedicated server" and customize the gameplay while letting players choose what they wanna play

Are you sure you can't play on Xbox 360? I haven't heard any news of people not being able to play on it or Xbox One (which is just an emulation of the Xbox 360 version).

Also, there are no dedicated servers. Just GFWL (PC)/Xbox Live (Xbox)/PSN (PS3) and peer 2 peer.

Oh, I've totally forgot. There is a dedicated server on PC for GTAIV. Server runs on the system of a person who has created session(you can see it by highly increased CPU load when you host), and can migrate on the fly to one of remaining players if host would leave. Thou it's tied to GFWL for match-making. And there might be some features that are handled by Rockstar servers.

As for consoles, there must be dedicated servers for GTAIV, since console hardware won't handle increased load.

Don't own an Xbox 360 but, it runs fine on my Xbox One X.

If the server runs on the system of a person who has created the sesson, then it's called peer 2 peer networking.
Also, I don't see why consoles wouldn't be able to handle it, I mean, they reduced traffic/npc/police variety in Multiplayer (no police patriots, no FIB, only one of the police cars is used, no fat cops, traffic/npcs don't operate on a per map zone basis like in Singleplayer, rather just go through a single small list of them hence why you can't get majority of vehicles in multiplayer or see over half the npcs the game has to offer), you only get to play as 2 player models instead of being abe to pick from the list of npcs, and other things, which were very likely for that reason. Shame these Multiplayer downgrades weren't removed from the PC version.

Not necessary, not in the way peer-to-peer means for video game player.
To say it's simple, it's like LAN but without fixed host. Main simulation in GTAIV been run and coordinated by the server.

Past gen consoles would die from such hosting. Cause game already squeeze every bit of performance to run there.
I want everyone to contact Rockstar and ask them to fix the PC multiplayer, and offer to pay for it if we need to. Do it :(
Sry my bad when i checked i saw posts for GTA5 and thought it was 4 lol, so i guess its just the xbox 360 servers for GTA5 being shut down since they still connect to the server system, i always forget it came out for 360 1st

k if you keep the old version of GFWL it should work theoretically, at least until theres an update that breaks the old version of GFWL cuz nobody is updating or supporting it working for Windows 10 or whatever and then we are screwed, otherwise it should work hopefully lol, if it just uses a p2p local host connection to the lobby leader

or hopefully someone makes a "dedicated server" patch / download for this game too, which would also need a mod to connect to it cuz it could show up in the GFWL matchmaking browser, but ehh we'll see cuz im sure most ppl have moved to 5s online or other things

* when i tried to comment earlier today it said my account didnt have permissions to comment here, but now its open, so im guessing theres some flip flopping around Rockstar on how to deal with this, and it would definitely be worse for them to try and stifle users and discussions lol (so theres a good chance sometime a bunch of discussions will be removed, but we'll see)

or let them know they should fix it and make sure it works through Steam or something, otherwise we will have to look through legal avenues for them unnecessarily removing content from a product users already bought (really everyone should definitely do it for GTA5 being forced to the Rockstar Launcher, cuz there was literally no other reason for that than to force users to see the R launchers content), of course we might get screwed anyway but its worth a try, otherwise if any game can do this why did we buy the games with multiplayer?

i mean i get it costs them something to keep dedicated servers hosted if a MP game uses them, in which case they should have to release the dedicated server for their game to so ppl can host their own if they want, although if this game uses regular Local Host connections thats not necessary and theres no reason for them to be changing it now
