GTA IV stuttering on good specs
So i recently finished playing GTA V (900p- med 30-35 FPS) on my PC (rockstar launcher) and decided to give GTA IV a shot but the game is running horrible, ive tried a few fixes like editing RAM to 409600, adding the norestriction script for vram but nothing has worked, it still stutters occasionally when driving and makes the game almost unplayable even at 1080p lowest settings I’m getting 20-25 FPS. Any fix ?
Specs:
Ryzen 2400g 3.6Ghz
8 GB 2400Mhz ddr4 (6 gb available)
2 GB vram vega 11 graphics

its one of the worst pc ports, not much u can do.
Also because ur on a laptop with integrated graphics, lower view distance and population stuff, night shadows off / lowest

there really is nothing you can do.

I don't think buying a graphic card would really help much in this case. The game is really badly ported.
Hey at least GTA V works... But IV, nope that runs like a sack of potatoes!

Grab the latest DXVK release and copy the dlls in the x32 folder into the GTAIV main directory.
You'll probably get a few more FPS and a far less stuttery experience.

With more CPU threads it'll run much better than the native D3D9 - I get locked 60fps everywhere on 2560x1440 w/
view distance to 75%
detail distance to 50%
60% density
medium night shadows
everything else on high

Using 12threads of a 3900X in a VM @4GHz
290X 8GB @1030MHz
32GB RAM for the Windows 10 VM

DXVK is a godsend for this game and a few others (FalloutNV too) - just be aware that you can't submit bug reports for it since it's 'unsupported' when run on Windows rather than WINE.

try downgrading to patch 1.0.4.0 you can find it on rockstar's website

One thing to try is bypass steam by launching the game with LaunchGTAIV.exe in the game folder. It helped get rid of most of my stutter. So, it could be as simple as disabling the steam overlay. I averaged 80 to 90 fps and still had major stuttering before trying it. Moving the view and detail distances down seems to grant the largest frame increase. Im on a 8700k rtx 2080 32 gig 3000hz ram and i still have to bring down the settings a bit. Ive played this on a 512mb ati graphics card. a 2 gig 750ti. This game cant be played well on really anything.

GTA4's PC port was extremely poorly made and it wasn't any better when the game initially released. Rockstar just didn't spend enough time optimizing the game for it. This was most likely also the reason why RDR1 was never ported simply because it would've cost too much to optimize the engine for PC.

This was also predicted to happen with GTA5 although oddly enough its PC version was pretty good. Probably because it came out more than a year after the original console release.

if anything above didnt help(esp. with patch 1.040), just try it later on new CPU, cu new GPU dont make much difference here

but tbh having this

900p med 30-35 FPS
in gta 5 is nowhere "good specs", since gta 5 optimiaation is actually good. and yeah, rdr2 u shouldnt even try, since that optimisation on pc as bad as gta4

i know that my specs arnt great or you know "good specs" since i dont have a graphic card but i just stated good specs specifcally for GTA IV, since the system requirements of that game are quite low

No matter what the system specs say in the store...that is a lie

Even on very good hardware of TODAY... it still has problems. It is not a good port, not good at all!

So, yeah it is a lie!

It is a well-known problem even with monster PCs. There are many tips but none of them worked for me. Worst PC port ever.
Kayu Mati 3 FEB 2020 a las 5:01 p. m.
you can try play it at 720p, texture high, definition on, anti aliasing x16, got avg 38-40 on athlon 300u with vega 3 and 8 gigs of ram
