Can't login to GFWL on GTA IV

Hi

I'm trying to login to GFWL on GTA IV for weeks now but it won't let me. I have the latest version of GFWL installed on Windows 10 and i have linked my account with Rockstar Social Club but cannot get anywhere. Is there any way of getting into GFWL at all since microsoft shutdown the service.

You can do one of two things:
1) Create an offliine account

Here's what I did:

1. Manually uninstall the two entries you find in Control Panel > Software.
   ("Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable" and "Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace")
   
   
2. Download the latest version of the GFWL client and install with admin rights.

3. Run the GFWL app, let it update and when prompted, let it install "Windows Live Sign-In Assistant".
   (or manually download & install it if necessary)

4. Shorten your GFWL/Xbox Live account password to 16 characters/digits on the website, because the in-game GFWL password field (home button) doesn't support more.

Disable the annoying (and obsolete) Social Club pop-up window by renaming "paul.dll" in the game's installation folder, so you can directly boot from desktop to the game's main menu.

Wrong.
All GFWL functionality has been merged into their XBox/Windows Live system.
Old accounts still work, you can still login, play online multiplayer in GTA IV and track achievements.

Globefish23 I have done all of that but now it says that either my email address or password is incorrect which it works fine on the xbox site or there's a problem with the service which as you said that microsoft have merged GFWL into Xbox and Windows.

This is the best solution. Social Club is removed after the last patch silently. So an offline GFWL profile is the best choice to keep existing and upcoming save content. I hope Rockstar won't destroy GFWL with another patch as i'm at the final mission which has not been completed yet!

WORRY NOT gamers, for I have some good news. Remember when they removed the Games For Windows Live element and it completely fouled up the game? Those of you who have experienced this, just download gfwlivesetup.exe (Microsoft® Games for Windows® Marketplace - LIVE Game Setup) at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201134 and install it. The program will patch and then if you run GTA-IV it will patch the GFWL in the game itself. This worked for me and saved my sanity. If you patch GTA-IV and have EFLC it automatically fixes that too. As for the current BS with GTA-IV failing to launch - I too has the same issue and well, just sat here and waited ... eventually (two minutes) the loader with the start button came up for GTA-IV so its cool, its glacial, it works. You may be asked to provide a login name. If you have one thats fine, if not you may need one. When during the GTA-IV update you are asked for one and just press the button to play it will either log you in or not. If not, go make a login. Otherwise the programs seem to run just fine.

You Sir are an absolute legend. Had to do a complete windows 10 re-install on my laptop due to microsoft update screwing it up (thaaaaanks microsoft) and GTA games would not go past the Windows live login page, your solution worked like a charm....many kudos indeed
