GFWL on 1080 saves compatible w non GFWL saves?
GFWL is still available. Will my non GFWL saves still work if I were to save my progress without disabling it?

Well, I loaded up a CD-ROM of all things with my old GTA-IV saves (dating back to 2009 and 2013) on it and they were accepted.

It's not recongnizing my saves in my documents folder, only the ones in the app data area.I have xlive installed. Or do I need xliveleess

Typically for GTA-IV the save games are here: C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_<long number> ... try there as this is the default save game folder. If you're still having problems you need only search for the file '' ControlMap.dat '' as that is the key bindings file associated with GTA-IV and should give you an idea as to where the save games are. The save games are numbered: SGTA400 to SGTA413.

Yes. That's what I'm talking about. I have files in BOTH locations. It's only recongizing my files in the app data section not my DOCUMENTS folder.

Hey OP, I'm also playing through the game with x live less right now. For me, the game saves to it's default save directory, NOT the one that x live less said it would save to. Try copying your saves to the default save location and see if it works. I do wonder why the save location didn't move though. I think it has something to do with Windows 10, since the x live less forum post only mentions moving the save for Windows 7.

Edit: Also, yes, you want X LIVE LESS installed (that's what the patch is called, but when you download it, the file will just say x live).

No. The saves made with the x-l¡veless-crack are not compatible with GFWL and vice versa. (The version of the game isn't a factor.)

Then you only use the files that are associated with the game location, as was intended. I don't know what sort of funky messing around certain parties have done with the game but a decade ago when the game was released it created a specific folder in APPDATA and thats where the save games are supposed to be. Been that way since the game was ported to PC. At worse this is a simple fix - load and save to the default save location. I've installed the XBOX patch and my copy of GTA-IV and EFLC (on STEAM) save to the same APPDATA folder, so somebody somewhere is doing something that is deliberately messing up GTA-IV.

If people suggest to use a crack like x-l¡veless (because they think the official GFWL doesn't work, or something), they usually omit some facts about this crack:

- Game saves are not compatible with GFWL
- No multiplayer support
- No achievement tracking

To me, this crack does more harm than good. You throw away a large part of the game you payed good money for and your game progress is compromised, if you ever want to use GFWL again.

Agreed eeZee, CRACKS are bad news. If you decide to mod or crack your game, please don't expect the game to work as intended. You see its hard to advise players who do such things as suddenly the way the game works has changed and well, my advice no longer applies. That said, modifications are fun and yes, I've used them in the past but ultimately they DAMAGE the product so its not cool that this happens.

As usual to fix this issue, DELETE your game, remove it from STEAM and then download a fresh copy. Apply the GFWL patch and play as intended.

Lotta people here don't seem to understand that x live less is not a crack, it just more or less patches out GFWL. You still need to own a legal copy of the game.

It sucks that people like me went through the troubble of making an xbox(GFWL) acount only to throw it out the window and let it rust away bc it was a shortcut to getting your $60 game to work properly. I think Rockstar should have made it an option to disable GFWL and Microsoft should have made it less confusing by stating that it was/is connected with an xbox acount.

''Microsoft'' - nuff said. I'm a fifty-one year old professional former computer hacker (corporate, as in security work) turned gamer who has been using computers of all types since 1981 and the reason for me telling you that?

Well, its to make a point that I've got almost four decades of computer experience in a casual and professional capacity. And in all that time I've never once found a computer manual that did nothing but confuse me because computer manuals are written by people who understand the subjects they are commenting on so well that they cannot think down to the level of non-computer users.

Especially those people who still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

This mean that although they may write the manuals in a relatively simplistic fashion and publish them with the belief that they are helping non-computer users to get a grasp of new concepts; more often than not they are just confusing people and among the worse offenders for this is Microsoft whose website often neglects completely to explain EXACTLY how to use software and almost never properly discusses the nature of how that software should be applied and installed.

Well, I installed GTA 4 on my laptop and it runs good. Mods work on 1080. But as someone else in the fourm said earlier, non GFWL saves won't work w GFWL. It's time to start over. 😕😞

I'm seeing this for reality right now and I'm getting ready to start over. I was only on like the 30th mission, so no biggie.

:steamfacepalm:

If you want to defend this crack, at least be honest about it's legal status and game breaking features and don't beat around the bush about it.

It's a crack. It doesn't patch anything, it disables a part of the game's DRM (GFWL).
(Hence the crack is censored on this forum because of it's illegal status.)

It also breaks saves compatibility, disables multiplayer and achievement tracking, as a bonus.

If it were an innocent and official 'patch', there wouldn't be a problem with it.
Clearly, there ARE problems with it, both legally as in breaking the normal working of the game.
