[FIXED] GTA IV Load Failed. Please check your hardrive.
Edit: To fix this go to your windows key + R run to Appdata>local>Rockstar games>GTA iv> and then click savegames and drag everything there into your documents>RG>GTA IV> Savegames> and finally paste them in, i would also reccomend getting xLive.dll and its SRC file in the GTA IV directory or else this will make the enttiled error show. Please use this at your own risk it worked for me thank you.

So as of recent i booted up GTA IV and attempted to play with a custom save game but when i load it, it says "Load Failed, Please check your hardrive."
i do not stop but within a few minutes of attempting forum and reddit post fixes
they do not work at all so i came here to see if i could get some help, before the questions about "do you have this installed" maybe do this or this and is it GFWL?
No, my answer is no because i tried these steps
-Playing with a 100% finished complete installation of GTA IV, has to come with a xlive.dll file and of course following steps tuts, and my self i know that i should put in the xlive.dll file however it does not really do anything attempting to help with the load fail problem and i tried to do these things:
-Deleting only dlls. and files that are not folders, then verifying my game cache
-Bypassing GFWL by downloading xlive.dll
-Scanning gta iv corruptions with adwcleaner, but so far none of this has really worked as far as i am aware maybe it could be because of the save 100 p/c file or maybe it is the game, or could it be me? maybe the version is the problem also speaking of which my GTA IV version is 1.0.8.0 and incase you are wondering yes the latest patches for EFLC and IV are: 1.1.3.0 and 1.0.8.0 i keep my updates on lock but they are all patched from the latest installments of updates and so on and so forth i do not think it could be the save file maybe it is the xlive.dll date it could be outdated, i have watched past tuts on it such as from the latest being 3-9 years ago i honestly think it could be either the xlive.dll or maybe i am doing something wrong i do not know, please help if you can, on a side note i have gotten a "gta iv has stopped working" note that i have xlive.dll and the xlive.dll file helped a lot including the src of the code file it completely removed my save game and i had to get a custom 100 p/c cause i had finished the game 2 times as of feb 2018 - may 2018 and so far the load failed, check your hardrive has been a bug i tried searching on forums but none have worked but that may be because they are outdated because noone plays gta iv that much but i do long time fan of all games including the early games such as gta 1 2 3 and so on. anyways like i said the forums may be outdated but also note that i only have tried 2 forums on google.com/GTAforums. Please help me with finding out this problem i thank everyone for it and if someone has a solution and knows how to fix it Contact me through discord/steam/ or the comments thank you :) have a nice night -BIMJ

I found the fix for this, but don't feel like making a thread- if enough people ask I will.

If your original save was linked to an xbox live account it will not load on a game that is not linked to xbox live and vice versa.

If your original save was offline, you can download a mod to remove xbox live features called x liveless

I used a save from GFWL, that later was updated to Xbox live, but couldn't get it to be loaded. It was even recognized on the pause menu, but can't load at all

I had the same problem!

But the last "official" Xliveless plugin was rather old and was not up-to-date for the Patches of the installed game.

here the link to the Xliveless mod what worked for me:
{LINK REMOVED}

Installation:
* unpack the file xlive.dll including the plugin folder into the game folder (X:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV)

simply copy your old savegames to following Folder:
(Windows 7,8,10) %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\

Win 11. For everyone who didn't manage to resolve the issue with 'hard drive'. Try to turn off your Windows Defender or add game folder & Rockstar Games Launcher folder to exceptions. It helped me and I'm able to save my progress again.
