GTA IV Serial Key Problem

I have a problem which I cannot seem to find a fix for.
I just got the game, and it is asking me to put in a serial key. I use the CD key I got through steam and it doesn't work. I have tried many things already, please help!

go to xbox.com , signin and go to your profile tab and click redeem code and from there redeem the gta iv product key after that just sign into gfwl with the same account and it should not ask for product key

also make sure that you have the latest gta iv
