Patch 1.0.8.0 Poor Performance
I've been looking around on these discussions and google, and I havent found any answer to this problem.

My specs are as follows:
Radeon R9 290
Intel i7 4970
16Gb Ram
512 GB SSD which the game is installed on

I used to be able to run this games at 50-60 fps (I use rivatuner to cpas fps at 60) on patch 1.0.7.0. It wasn't perfect, there were some fps drops, but overall it was very good. Now my framerate jumps between 60fps down to 20, and a lot of stuttering. I figured running xliveless might have something to do with it, but I tried running the game without it and nothing changed.
I can even change the resolution from 1920x1080 to 3200x1800 using amd's vsr and there is no change in how the game runs. If anybody knows something that can help, I'd appreciate it if you shared it.

Thanks

GTA IV is notoriously bad with optimizations.
Patch 1.0.4.0 has the best performance by far.
It also seems to have the most mods.

Might want to try that.

How do we get a prior version?

I found a solution that works for me: I just installed everything in the installers folder in the gta iv directory except for the two xliveupdate ones.

I also toggled vsync in the game, so for me I switched from vsync on to off to on again.

Edit: It seems to bea temporary solution, I've found, the problem seems to randomly crop up. Toggling the vsync fixes this for a while, but it isn't permanent.

Can you please explain what you mean by "everything"? Because by default the game installs everything to the steam folder...

are you using Windows 7?
no w10 pro 64 bit

just downloaded gta4 and put xliveless.dll into the install folder

the game works 100% no problems and no daft xbl popups

I'm having this same problem.
Vsync toggling fixes it temporarily, but it comes back with a vengeance.
I DID NOT have this issue with 1.0.7.0.

Win10 64
GTX 560
AMD Phenom II x4 840

I resolved this issue by disabling C-States in my BIOS.
Turned out to be a DPC Latency problem.

As for me, this issue is only caused when the game is ran from Steam. If it is ran directly, it doesn't occur.

A downgrade to 1.0.7.0 didn't fix it, and the "only if ran by Steam" aspect was still there.
I don't have Steam Overlay on.

It's some other injection process or Steamworks or something causing it.
