But...Why?!
Why is this a thing? Who decided to make a game that is virtually identical to a long running, hugely successful franchise, but make it markedly crappier? There isn't a single ounce of creativity in this game. It's almost a copy-paste of Pokemon.

I mean pokemon did the same thing to SMT and it worked out pretty well. FPS was originally called"Doom clones" and Soulslikes are booming and quite enjoyable. Welcome to the gaming industry?

The game has an awesome soundtrack, interesting monster designs, lots of difficulty options and cool looking boss battles, there is even an extensive demo so the devs are clearly putting functionality and gameplay first, honestly what more do you want?

To add on to what Young Sandwich said: And any top-down actiony-RPG dungeon crawler are all considered "Diablo clones" (Torchlight, Path of Exile). Pokemon doesn't "own" monster capture games. They are just the longest running one.

Coromon has some GREAT changes that I much prefer over Pokemon.

Because that franchise went off in a direction a lot of people don't like (seems every generation has a new gimmick that isn't fun, over-complex, and removed in the next generation). This feels like going back to the core gameplay with improvements.

Pokemon has existed for over two decades. It's honestly a wonder there haven't been more attempts to make games in the same genre. And calling Coromon "markedly crappier" is rather subjective. I've enjoyed the first hour or so, and feel like it improves on a lot of Pokemon's archaic systems.

I feel like at this point these threads should just be removed. Monster capturing games are allowed to exist outside of pokemon and this game isnt the only case. Coromon has its own unique changes and its obvious an insane amount of work has been put in by their art team. Id much rather play this over yet another Pokemon title.
Pokemon was just monster hunting/collecting crossed with traditional turn-based de rigueur JRPG design of its era. I love Pokemon, but it's difficult to argue it did anything particularly innovative from a gameplay or design standpoint. The only thing it did that was clever was sell two different versions and allow trading, to drive the collection craze. And then merchandise the hell out of itself to become a staple and garner mindshare.

This is a fun take on a similar design, with (to me) beautiful pixel art, and some arguable QoL improvements. So I'm interested. For the same reasons Bug Fables scratches an itch the Paper Mario games don't anymore (for me.)

Ya know, I stand by what I said. There are tons of very good collecting games, monster sanctuary comes to mind. A good collector game will take the concept and put in a cool new spin to make it there own thing. Not unlike Diablo clones, or souls-like. All bring something new to the table. This game so far is a literal copy-paste of Pokemon. Right down to saying, "It's VERY effective instead of SUPER. My god half the monsters I caught where just pokemon that looked slightly different. You can even only catch them in tall grass! However, when all is said and done, this is just one man's opinion. People are free to like or dislike whatever they choose. If you happen to really like this game, that's fantastic! You have to find joy where ever you can. For my money, I'd like to see something innovative, not iterative. It's a tough market, and I just don't think this does enough to stand out from the crowd.

I'd say your version of "copy-paste" is faulty considering it got green-lit for Nintendo Switch, your opinion is that they are copy pasting the biggest franchise and its blatantly wrong seeing as that would have massive legal consequences. Another day on the internet, someone says some stupid crap and then hides behind "muh opinion" when called out on it. Why not just lurk in the shadows instead of putting negativity into the world? Do you just look at things you dislike and call them out on a regular basis? Is this fun to you?

The fact you can call a game bad when they are delaying it to develop it further pretty much says everything anyone needs to know, do you review things based on short E3 trailers and demos on the regular? Why not have some constructive criticism instead of trolling so people can actually take you seriously and the devs can learn and improve?

Explain exactly how "This gaem sucks" helps? I know I'm being rude but what I find really rude is insulting small devs hard work on a public forum for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles.
There's also just kind of a fun self-aware meta-ness to so clearly taking inspiration from Pokemon, frankly. Which I find endearing personally. YMMV, but that's why it doesn't strike me as "copying" Pokemon so much as very clearly trying to cater to fans of it in its own way. Again, analogous to Bug Fables and classic Paper Mario games.

The other appeal is, of course, simply the fact that it's available on PC. Something that will likely never be the case for Pokemon.

Nintendo can't hold a whole genre hostage anymore, they barely put effort into it anyways.

This. Gamefreak and nintendo as a whole don't do ♥♥♥♥ for pokemon anymore and they keep rehashing old games/ put out crap like sword and shield on a piece of hardware that can handle many more polygons than a 6 polygon count tree.

Having played the demo, I must say I've enjoyed this game way more than I initially expected I would. Yes, it's clearly 100% based on Pokemon, but the demo felt way more than just a lazy copy-paste of Pokemon. The devs did a great job in creatively filling in all the tiny details in such a way that the game feels unique in its own way. At no time did I get bored nor felt like the devs put in lazy copy-paste fillers as content, which is a good thing.

Considering the full game isn't it out yet it's hard to tell yet whether it's going to be worth it or not, but the demo sure was impressive enough for me keep a close eye on this game.

Some people just like some smashy smashy. What's wrong with more of the same? Sure the character design is pretty terrible, but there is a reason Pokemon designs are extremely polished. Because Gamefreak spends a unreasonable amount of resources to make the designs. Unreasonable relative to some small band of developers trying to make some money.

We totally need more games like this on PC. I am a PC-games, I don't own Switch and I don't plan to buy it ever, bc the only game that is interesting for me on Switch is Pokemon.
So Coromon is the perfect solution.
Nintendo doesn't care to give players what we want? That's not a problem, we'll give our money to someone else =)

Because it is better. Gamefreak never listens. Have you seen that low difficulty in Sword and Shild? Ridicoules, here you even get a slider for that.
