Season 4 explanation?

How the hell does this season work? I don't get it at all. Can anyone help?

Short version is that if you do runs as you normally do, you get points that every 5 levels give you various cosmetic items or soul essence. On Nightmare difficulty and higher, you get additional bonuses while playing in the form of star links, which are just extra boons for collecting specific occult scrolls and ascensions together. It's a way to make replaying the game more interesting as it adds more customization through the star links.

Gotcha, I haven't played the game in awhile and I only beat it a couple times with the owl of all characters. Btw is there any guide for newer characters like Tao and Wukong (ik hes called something else but clearly it's Wukong)

Already went in detail in another thread but the TL;DR is that this season is basically a souped up version of the Spiritual Link modifier, including ways to more easily get your desired links.
