Super high ping - coop unplayable!

This started happening recently to us :(
Ping OK-isch in the lobby but once ingame, we all see 250ms pings and worse.
The game become unplayable.

After switching who hosted the game (this used to make a difference) we did not see any changes anymore and started digging into this.

The post title is a bit misleading in my opinion, as this is not a fix, but rather a temporary workaround.

Our conclusion is that the game was changed from self-hosting/peer-to-peer to server hosting for coop. And apparently there seems to be a decision made based on the selected language ingame? We all play in English, while being based in the EU and our 250+ ping suggests that our game is hosted e.g., in the USA.
Changing our game language to e.g., German and restarting, then the pings are suddenly in the 20-40ms range. Once the game session is going, you can even switch back to English (or whatever other language) without affecting the ping.

Again, this is a workaround proving the issue, but please devs, Duoyi Games, this issue needs to be fixed! Literally unplayable!

My friends and I just hopped on with a friend who just bought the game and found we were in the thousands for ping. We're all in America using english and yet we are having horrible ping, this used to not be an issue because I would host thanks to my good internet. We need peer to peer back.

*edit* After restarting our games we were able to play with no issue

Try Steam settings —> In game —> Steam Networking —> "Always".

Helped me and my friend reduce the ping by a lot, without changing the language.

I’ve been having a similar problem. Tried multiple times with a week or so in between each time. Have been unable to find a fix.

It worked way better for us: we went from ping 240-320 to 40-100.

This had worked at least once for us in the US. Switched to espanol. Went from 220 (3 sessions in a row) to 40 ping.

Last time we played we tried it again. It seems to be consistent for us if we all change to German (we're EU mainland) BEFORE we join in a lobby. Once the game loaded and we're at the weapon crate, we change back to English.

But again, this is merely a workaround. Super annoying.

I had money saved waiting for the new DLC to come out, but after having to play with extremely high ping and there seemingly no acknowledgement from the devs about it, I think I'll pass until they fix it. come on devs, you're better than this.
