How long does a Season last for and how does it work overall?

I own the game but havent gotten the time to play it yet.

Just wondering if the season rewards is just by playing the game or some kind of extra game mode?

Sounds so much fun i feel like im missing out.

Seasons have a mechanical gimmick to them in higher difficulty levels. In this case, it's new deployable "mechanisms" like a shield wall or a turret. You can also earn cosmetic rewards from completing little challenges throughout your runs.

Don't worry about missing out - you can earn all the cosmetics after the season leaves, and the gameplay elements are able to be selected before a run. You can go back and play with the season 1 content now if you wanted.
