The reason it is hard to find matchmade players is because a combination of these factors:

- Each playthrough is relatively long and so people spend a lot more time in the game than trying to start a new game
- You cannot join midgame both from the way the game has been made/coded and also as it would not really work as you be behind on Ascensions and scrolls and underpowered and as it is a roguelite - this is very core to the game and cannot be mitigated
- There are MANY different difficulty levels with the pre R difficulties and then all the R levels. This makes the pool of potential payers much smaller as you will only be matchmade to others playing he same difficulty

Given the above - it is much better to find people to play with and to then start a game as a group than it is to use the matchmaking to try and find others who are also looking to start a game on the same difficulty at that exact moment!

it would seem that 10,000 are playing, but the selection of players is very poor

everyone is in reincarnation.

Definitely not a common situation for every difficulty. Normal up until reincarnation is basically dead. They’re all one-and-done difficulties with vanilla mechanics and encounters.

Reincarnation 1-8 is where most players are at. It introduces a bunch of new modifiers, mechanics, and unique encounters that makes it much more worthwhile to replay.

In my experience since playing when it first came to Steam in early access, a good chunk of players either play solo or in private games as well - on top of all the difficulty level options. I know me and anyone I've played with, only play private games.

The easiest way to find multiplayer lobbies is by using the lfg channel on the official discord server.

A lot of people play this game solo because honestly the game is better designed for solo play. Multiplayer revival, constantly having teammates say "can I have this scroll for this scroll" and turning a 40 minute run into a 1.5 hour run will drive you insane. Then there's the Interconnected Fates ♥♥♥♥, where if someone is new or stupid they can literally ruin the run then and there.

I've tried to get people off the Interconnected Fates ♥♥♥♥, but they are all too greedy for the extra scrolls despite it making the game arguably worse for it. Either we meta slave and pick things that increase our party's DPS and survival over what the enemy's get out of it, or someone ♥♥♥♥♥ everything up and we end up getting hardlocked because some Armored Robust Arsonists in the next level after choosing the scrolls is unkillable because of Flesh and Bones.

Both of those are bad. The game is too easy, so it doesn't need to be more easy. And on the flipside, I don't want to give another player the agency to grief the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ run!

If you just want to play co-op and don't care about how easy your game will be, you can select alternative difficulties in your matchmaking settings. You'll probably join on someone playing normal, but who knows.

Depends on the time of day. During daytime i find i sit 5 minutes in lobby maybe for reincarnation. If enable all difficulty it's easier to get into game fast.

At nighttime it's pretty much a ghosttown though

I'd really have taken a proper multiplayer lobby over any other new DLC. Garbage matchmaking is killing this great game.
