Electric weapons do really well in this stage especially. Playing with 4 people makes it a lot easier. If you have a turtle you should just let them upgrade the weapons for the other guys as turtle doesn't need any weapons himself (which is a big boon in multiplayer, as this can double the amount of upgrades for the remaining players).
I personally (playing in nightmare) got through that phase in about 2 seconds just spamming the new hero's melee attack.
Edit: just cleared a duo run with a random teammate in R5 and it was as usual, boss died in 2 seconds.
I have not the faintest idea. I myself wasn't dealing that much damage during this phase, being turtle.
We had a bird who had a +51 Wild hunt and another turtle with a +48 Pupil. No advanced depot either. The boss literally died before I could hit it a second time. Even though they were randoms we did a lot of scroll sharing, and I double upgraded for the other guys at each craftsman (as turtle doesn't need any weapons imo - I was top damage for the entire run with a +3 sword). Electric damage obviously helps too.
Apparently penetrating shot completely bypasses it.
You are gonna fail the first few attempts, but you'll get the hang of it much like you did to the previous bosses/events.
New Scrolls, revamped Peculiar Chest, and a new area all allow for weapons to be upgraded a lot further than the previous "limit". I've seen anywhere from 50-70 being common on R8 at the final area. Most people are also taking +3/+4 weapons and taking those straight to the end of the game which allows for more chances to upgrade.
(Penetrating Bullet would only break the second phase, where he has a ton of shield and 1 HP. It wouldn't affect the first phase)
Out of all the builds I've tried, here's the one that I believe is most broken: bunny + fatal bloom + weaponskill ascensions + wild hunt/ big hippo
No one has the demonlore since none of my friends including me bothered to unlock it, but I heard that gun is OP.
