This happens frequently in the higher resurrection levels. You get the little treasure dragon Qian and the room is absolutely filled with the worst ranged attack enemies. You cannot focus fire on Qian, you will die. The challenge is frequently impossible, and you cannot cheese the challenge as it is on a timer.
O/P is correct and you just aren't paying attention to his words. Or you are so godlike that there is nothing difficult in the game LOL. I honestly don't know which, you tell me.
Edit: I have done this challenge with a Bone Dragon. You are correct that it hampers the ranged enemies. However, it has pathetic DPS and will not win the challenge for you. Even if you had Demonlore in weapon slot 1 and Bone Dragon in slot 2 (which I have had) it is still not possible to both impede the enemies and burn the golden dragon down. Bear in mind the little dragon is doing his best to get away, and there is no crit on his back for the Demonlore to leverage. Face it, Qian does not belong in the stage 1 dungeons.
In single player this event does limit the builds you can use since there are very few that are heavily focused on Elites/Bosses. Sure every build can become strong in game, but not every build has a strong start making Act 1 in general more difficult. Ever character has a way to counter this enemy, but you might not want to or you might not enjoy playing those builds.
In my experience It is very rare in random groups for dmg or enemy spawns to be an issue. I find that players entering this vault by themselves to be a bigger issue. Starting this vault without your team close by almost always results in a lose.
If the mobs in the room are an issue then it might also just be a skill issue. This vault is a lot easier to maneuver around attacks compared to its Act 2 and 3 variations.
Assuming I got that right, I'll try to respond with at least a fraction of your courtesy.
I don't agree that Act 1 is particularly difficult. My only challenge is the Polar Monarch and occasional bad luck. Polar Monarch is a problem in his last phase, where there is no place to dodge to and the entire floor is painted red with incipient attacks. I sometimes die in that mess, even playing the bird. So, yeah, I suppose I'm a noob. And because he had the temerity to speak his mind, maybe the O/P is a noob, too. Doubtful, but possible.
May I introduce you to stealthXG? If you think this guy (stealthXG) is a noob, I invite you to watch his videos. I don't want to inflate the poor guy's ego, but noob he is not. So you can take your git gud and...oh, wait. I forgot I was trying to be polite.
Edit: On re-reading this, it comes off spicier and less funny than it was in my head. I want to be clear that I took no offense and was joking about the git gud stuff. Also, I have no authority to speak on stealthXG's behalf. He is both a better player and nicer than I am. He does not think he's all that, that's just me (that thinks he's all that). So no offense taken nor intended.
Venom pistol rightclick (even without exclusive inscriptions) helps with that little critter or the double barrel shotgun. Anything with high burst damage close up. You don't have time and enough damage to kill everything anyways most of the time.
Picking weapons that help you survive is better than going for what you "like" on solo reincarnation runs.
