Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2 Windows 7 64-bit FIX that finally worked for me.
Tried all other solutions to no avail.

Here are my system specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
12 gigs of RAM
i7 920
AMD Radeon 5850 HD, latest catalyst drivers.

I installed MP2 and got the following errors: game would not start despite showing up in my task manager.

I then tried setting compatibility mode to Win XP, Win 98, and Win 95. Did not work. I got a "Start up init" error.
I tried running Steam in WinXP and win98 comp mode and it did not work.

Then I did the following which worked.
In my steam apps, I found the fille named appmanifest_12150.
I opened it using Wordpad and found the line "installdir".
I changed the directory name and removed ALL SPACES.
My installdir line reads now: "MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne"
I saved and restarted Steam.
For some reason, the save did not take place and I opened up the appfile again and saw that my changes were not implemented. I think Steam somehow reverts the changes.
So I went in, saved again, then shut down and restarted Steam.
It happened again and after the third time, for some reason I was able to save the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ file without it changing. I restarted Steam, opened up the file again to make sure there were no changes and that the installdir line read, "MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne".
Then I went into the game older and renamed the MP2 folder to this:
MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne
Exactly the same as it appears in the newly saved appmanifest file.
Then I went back into the MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne folder, right clicked on the maxpayne2.exe file and chose "win98 compatibility". I DID NOT check run as admin.
I closed everything, and ran Max Payne 2 from Steam and it worked.

FINALLY.

Hope this works for everyone.

If I have forgotten a step, or you require clarification, just add a comment and I will glady try and help you out.

BTW I require no widescreen fix as I am able to run the game with 1920X1080 resolution.

Everybody is able to run the game in 1080p resolution. It does not mean you don't need the Widescreen fix. It fixes the aspect ratio of the game when run with a resolution other than 4:3 aspect ratio :)

Everyone is able to run the game? Lol have you not seen the rest of the forums?
My aspect ratio is fine as well.

That's not what he said, those are only the first 7 words of what he said. When you take things out of context it changes the meaning. What he said was that nobody needs the widescreen fix to run the game at 1080P. You need it to run it at 1080P at 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 1080P at 4:3 aspect ratio. Running things in the wrong ratio for your resolution either stretches them out, squishes them in, or crops parts of the image off that should be there depending on which way you are going (higher to lower vs. lower to higher) and how you have your personal setup configured.

I have this problem : Exception in engineInit:Unable to load save game "Files". File does not exist or it is not a valid savegame file.

Does anyone know how can I fix this problem ?

Foosball, thank you so much! I've spent HOURS on forums over the last week trying to get this damn game to run, and your suggestion worked PERFECTLY.
