Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2 is so boring compared to the first one
Does anyone else feel that Max Payne 2 is bad/boring compared to the first game? The voice acting seems like it's gotten worse it doesn't feel interesting as it was in the first game, The story isn't as interesting, it's just about Mona which isn't that amazing to be honest and like in the first game there was like objects or etc in the game that had dialogue that added on to the amazing story in my expirences Max Payne 2 has none of that, The comic dialogue is dissapointing compared to how Max Payne 1 did it. On Max Payne 2 it just feels very odd in my oppinion and the level desigin is quite boring, It's just mostly buildings and etc and no level has really gotten me interested. The whole stoy design just feels stale and not interesting. Though the gameplay is kind of a plus with more weapons but I just find that it's just not that good compared to the first one and rather boring. (I'M NOT HATING ON MAX PAYNE 2, IT'S A GOOD GAME). I'm just sharing my thoughts on why I think Max Payne 2 isn't as good compared to the first game. I would like to hear other thoughts and oppinions from Max Payne players, I do love this game but I just find it to be less interesting and boring. Max Payne 1 had such a great story and his voice acting just made it so interesting. I never felt this in this game it's just about some chick half of the time. Anywyas I would love to hear other friendly comments <3

The gameplay is such a giant leap above 1 that I don't mind anything else (but yes, the story and presentation isn't as cool as 1 even if still way above 3)

MP2 all the way! When I go back and play MP1 I missed the extra details like the physics on characters knocking things over and shelves off the walls when they get knocked back.I love all the games but MP2 is my favorite by far!

MP1 for story, MP2 (kinda) for gameplay
MP2 ironed out a lot of kinks in the gameplay of the first one, but also made it way too easy
the story in 2 is good and has a nice atmosphere, but feels derivative of 1 and not nearly as quality
The coolest part ot 2 for me was the Havok physics, so much fun playing around with that

Ok here is my opinion on the 2 games

GAMEPLAY= MP2>MP1 (MP2 gunplay is just too much fun if a little too easy. Max is super OP in MP2 especially with the bullet time slowing everything down but keeping Max's movement speed normal which makes any challenge a cakewalk if you use it constantly)

Story: MP1>MP2 (though IMO everything in MP2 from voice acting to comic panels, and music feels way more polished and more professional)

Difficulty: MP1>MP2.
This one is reatively easy. MP1 is relatively or I guess considerably harder while MP 2 is easy. But some of the difficulty comes from goons not dying from headshots and notable villains/characters being some sort of damage sponges which is not the case in MP2. Vlad didn't feel like having simply more HP than the usual enemies

Graphics and physics: This one is obvious and also unfair to compare but whatever
MP2>MP1. MP2's physics were pretty damn impressive and slick especially for its time.

OST: MP2>MP1
MP2 ost is simply more varied than that of MP1 though both are very good

Again its my opinion and I respect yours

Max Payne 2 seems very derivative of itself. It's not a bad game but I dont think it comes close to the atmosphere and gunplay of the first game. MP2 fixes some problems with the gunplay of the original but goes too far with it and makes it way too easy. Slowmo in MP1 almost felt pointless, but in MP2 slowmo lets you run around everyone super fast picking them off with beretta headshots and not getting hit once. The slowmo reload is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying just reload my guns I dont want to see some spinning around animation that ♥♥♥♥♥ up my flow. The biggest selling point was and still is the Havok physics engine. I spent a lot of time reloading quicksaves just to see the different ways I could ragdoll people. The escort mission part with Mona is terrible, having to babysit max with the Dragunov is so tedious. I would have rather either had that section be Mona fighting alongside Max, or just not involve him whatsoever and be a separate but related subplot. Or just get rid of the Mona section altogether and go with Maxes perspective playing through that section. The biggest improvement is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare sections arent hair ripping this time around, the one after Vinnie's car lot with all the doors and mirrors is a bit annoying but not nearly as much as the blood trails and baby wailing. The antenna helicopter bit at the end of MP1 was a neat little puzzle that I hadnt seen before, but the end of MP2 against Vlad is way too obviously a "shoot these bits to defeat the boss" kind of thing. I think the happiest I could get would MP1 with Havok physics added to the enemies and environments. The snowed-in asthetic of MP1 is way more appealing than the raining in MP2

edit: I just realized I already responded to this before, but whatever

I respectfully disagree. I think Max Payne 2 was the greatest sequel of all-time. This is my favorite series ever. I LOVE the third game as well, and i even played the Gameboy Advance version of 1. Max Payne 2 was the first and only game that i play through at one sitting at release day. :D I just can't stopped playing it. I loved every second of it.

I think the story is much more interesting. More tight, more focused. Felt more mature, because the game dealing with more emotion than anger and sadness. I like the maps, especially the manor. All the head-bashing references to love is a nice touch! It's more stylized.

The reload animation is pointless, but you can see around the room, look at the still flying corpses, the particles, the chaos, it's just fun. The game almost fully stops when you reload, so you cannot loose because of it or anything. PLUS it is a very clever reminder that Max Payne not a matrix ripoff, more so a John Woo flick! :D

Again, i enjoyed the Mona Sax parts very much. The sniping section was very short, especially on the easier settings. It's just a little variety, plus a clever way to show that Mona cares for Max.

The ending is indeed very similar to the helicopter scene, but i loved it. You chase Vlad, he constantly taunt you, he killed Woden, he is on the top of the Inner Circle literally and metaphorically! It is not overly long, or hard and definitely not as grandiose as the helicopter scene. And the bomb part with the panic room earlier is different! :D

You are absolutely right about the snow aesthetic part. I like it more just like you. But you can see the rain drops slowing down in bullet time, and that is the point! :D

I think the first game has a very solid foundation, but a little too over the top with the conspiracies, and drug labs. The second game is a tighter, smaller story, but packed with actions and (maybe a little obvious...) twists. The third one even more over the top than the first... WAAAAY more :D But still very fun!

I respect your opinion, and it is not an attack or anything! :D I hope someday we get a 4. game, with a bad-ass grandpa Max. I think it is possible to write at least one more part!!! :D

ps.: Sorry for my english.

I agree with everything you said :D I just finished MP1 and MP2 again and it's still my favorite by far.

nah, i think the game's story is a perfect place to take max after the events of 1, full of regret, realizing his grin and feeling of victory after was nothing but a short term high, the game's levels aren't as good sure, but the gameplay is much better

Agree and the graphics are better.

I don't see a difference, really. I think they're both the same amount of fun, just one looks more appealing visually.

1 is the best. max lost all his charm in the 2nd game, doesnt feel like the same character at all and the love story with mona seems very forced/unnatural. 2 is way too easy compared to 1. the bullet time reloading in 2 is kinda cringey. theres too much comic panel cutscnes compared to the first
played the 1st one, playing the 2nd one now, bow are boring. if you have seen 15 minutes of any game, you have seen pretty much all of it.
