I loved it, but I absolutely hated the amount of cutscenes, most of them could have been done in game, but they took you out the action. Not to mention they were unscipable. Pretty much killed of any reply value.
Yeah, i agree with this. They were really loud and got way too much attention. The fun house was ok i guess once but it's way overused. They went from a cool thing i'd like to discover to the game practically screaming in your face "LOOK AT THIS!" so it just annoyed me.
other than 2 or three spots, I liked it a lot.
And it's not like I hate MP3, the entire trilogy is awesome. But Max Payne 1 takes the top because of the story, I just love the way it is told, not to mention the iconic graphic novel sequences and the voice acting.
But the thing about the first one that really caught my eye were the nightmare sequences, I truly don't understand why people hate them so much, it's scary and you really get into Max Payne's head while playing them.
Take this for an example, in Max Payne 2 it is mentioned that Max blames himself for staying late at work to chat with a friend (possibly Alex) and not hurrying home to his family when they most needed him.
This is why his house turns into a labyrinth (representing his intention of saving his family, but not arriving on time to do so) on the first nightmare sequence and the corridors get stretched and keep shifting. Thus on the final nightmare you have to kill Max's clone, also confirming the fact he hates himself.
Max Payne 2 enhanced the only thing that needed improvements, Bullet Time. Instead of also slowing down Max's movements (like in the first game) now you maintain certain speed while using it.
The third game is brilliant, believe me. I live in Brazil and I have to say Rockstar did a great job recreating it. Even the slangs some enemies say during gameplay are the same ones we use here and you really feel like you're in a Favela. But I still understand all the hate people have for it, considering that it's a different language, most of the players felt lost in the game, which to me was the feeling that Rockstar tried to pass to them, wasn't very effective in my opinion.
The game was a lot shorter than Max Payne 1 though and that had to do with the game's dramatically increased budget and focus on technology, since it was one of the first games to truly take advantage of using a physics engine and one of the first to make it feel genuinely enjoyable in an action game. (Since it released prior to Half-Life 2 and other games).
The gameplay was also really fast paced and addicting and while it lacked the grounded weighty combat of the original it was a welcome change given their engine was now capable of rendering many more enemies and particle effects.
and the most ridiculously funny cut scenes from when max is on drugs.
MP3 i just meh... waves of enemies one after another, then move to a new spot, more tons of enemies...
story-wise, 1st one was great, 2nd game was likable and the 3rd one felt somehow exaggerated.
