SOLUTION Get the game to run perfect on Windows 11
Had a bit of problems with this one, old game and all that.

Do the following:
1. download the files from this site
https://github.com/fkortsagin/Max-Payne-2-Fix-Windows-11
- Do this by clicking the green button saying "code" --> Download ZIP

2. Copy the files into the main directory (where the Max Payne 2 .exe is)
- d3d8.dll
- d3d8.ini
- global.ini
- LICENSE

3. Open the folder "FPS Monitor Resolution Lock for 1080p Patch" and copy over follwing files to the same main directory (overwrite when asked)
- d3d8.dll
- d3d9.dll
- d3d9.ini
- global.ini
- LICENSE
- MaxPayne2.WidescreenFix.asi
- MaxPayne2.WidescreenFix.ini

4. Run the game like normal, change resolution to 1080p. Put all other settings to Max (no pun intended)

5. Enjoy Max Payne with less pain.

Done everything as described, for some reason it won't work. Does anybody have a similar problem.

I am now running the game at 240fps at 5120x1440p with the correct aspect ratio. Thank you very much :)

Using win11, the game launches now, but my game is still locked to a 4:3 ratio despite putting my settings to 1920x1080x32 in the options before clicking play. Is this something I have to install alongside a widescreen fix or did I do something wrong?

Nevermind, decided to actually start a new game and its fine. Not sure why the menus are locked to 4:3 while everything else is normal but hey, whatever works.

Yep,if it shows u that error then remove the spaces from the game folder's name, (e.g. change "SteamApps\Common\Max Payne 2 The Fall of Max Payne " to "SteamApps\Common\MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne" and then edit the appmanifest file with WordPad(..\SteamApps\appmanifest_12150.acf) and change the text after "installdir" to the name of your Max Payne 2 folder ( "MaxPayne2TheFallofMaxPayne" ) and save it.
If it starts downloading the game again just run it from testapp.exe

i tried everything, copying those files copying them all changing the name of the folder and the appmanifest as well but nothing. Is there any other thing I can try?
Thank you so much

I just tested this game on my Windows 11 system and it works perfectly fine at 4K high settings without any modifications needed. I don't know why some of you are having an issue. That is strange.

i7-13700
32GB DDR5
RTX 4090
Windows 11
MSI MPG321UR QD 32" 4K 144Hz

The first game does have a couple issues like no sound and JPEG crashing when loading. It appears the game doesn't like modern multi-core CPUs. I had to put a modified dll in the game folder and use the audio conversion patch.

Nothing strange about it. The issue is fairly common
