Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Is "Dead on Arrival" worth playing after completing the main story or is it practically the same game?
I just completed the game and all 8 chapters on normal detective difficulty level.

Now it says bonus secret game modes unlocked.

"Completing the game on Detective unlocks Hard Boiled, a higher difficulty level. Completing the game on Hard Boiled unlocks Dead on Arrival, the highest single-player storyline difficulty. In Dead on Arrival, you possess a limited number of saves per level."

So in order to unlock Dead on Arrival I must complete the game on Hard Boiled difficulty.

So in essence we are talking about playing the game 3 times all over again just to have a slightly different ending, if I am not mistaken?

So what else am I exactly missing. Is Dead on Arrival practically the same game and roughly same story line and levels but with higher difficulty and limited number of save games? If this is indeed the case, then I guess it will be a waste of time going through it all over again.

You're just unlocking harder difficulties from Hard Boiled to Dead on Arrival. If I recall correctly, there's an alternative ending (in the comics) after finishing the game on Dead on Arrival.

Otherwise, beside the limited saves per level, the game is the same.

Many thanks for the clarification! So basically, the ending is only in comics cutscene but in game there is absolutely no difference. Like for example we will not see Mona surviving in game and the story ending with both Max and Mona happily ending the story in love. That's how it should've been really.

If this was the case, I would've seen a more compelling case for playing the harder difficulties.

But just for having a harder game, I guess is a complete waste of time when I can invest that time and energy into a completely different game. Life is too short to replay the same game over and over again.

Not for me. The replay value in this game (even more so with the first game), especially when tried with mods, is amazing. Total conversion mods can create a different experience.

I don't doubt that with mods the game can provide a different experience. But the replay valueability is less worthy now than it was back in 2003. Back then there weren't that many video games on the market or multiplayer games and people had slow dial-up internet.

Now we have so many games in our steam library and also with Max Payne 2 and 1 not having steam achievements I see it as a waste of time to replay this, however, interesting the game may be.

I have too many other single player games that I need to play, which I have not yet started. I can now happily move on to those and forget about Max Payne 1/2 knowing that I already completed them.
