Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Regarding evasion of bullets
This has already been asked (by "Grizzly")
but nobody answered the used. Is it possible to evade bullets in any cappacity? It's clear the dodge no longer shrinks Max's hurtbox and that enemies have much better accuracy than in the original Max Payne. Since you no longer can evade damage by dodge > bullet time > repeat, is there any way of reliably avoid damage?

Well, even if you get hit, there are plentiful of painkillers around the levels. The game is not that hard. If you want to break it, however, just use the bullet time without dodging (by pressing SHIFT if I don't mistake). This way, the game'll get even easier.

It's not about the game being hard, I had already finished it in DOA by the time I made the thread, but I still wanted to know, since the first Max Payne was so much fun because of damage being so reliable avoidable.

You dodge the enemies aim rather than the actual bullets.
Think they where going for Max having the reaction time and aim of the man with no name while still moving like a human. As bullets move faster (as well as the reticle being more honest about where the bullets go), your own aim and shots, like the enemies, are way more reliable.

It's more about shooting than dodging basically.

Moreover, bullet time slows down every kill. So shoot first, dodge later (though even on the highest diffuculty most clusters of enemies are pretty easily taken out before much need to dodge).

Yes, this is the issue, bullet time plays the game for you, you don't actually need to evade bullets when Max is so overwhelming during slowdown.

Well, that seems like a different matter than your first question which was "is there any way of reliably avoid damage?" to which I would say that killing everyone before they hit you is way more reliable way to avoid damage than anything that exists in 1. As for "you don't actually need to evade bullets" As I said, they probably tried to remake Max in to a character with really quick reflexes but get rid of the goofiness of a detective who isn't the one or a superhero actively dodging the actual bullets. I don't see 'different' equating to 'bad' in this case.

It's not really a different matter. Max can't actually evade bullets, so slowdown is massively improved from the first game. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't skipping some hidden evasion mechanic.

OK. Well I don't think theres any new dodge moves. Instead 2's levels seem to have more angles and things to sweep in and out of to keep out of the line of fire (as opposed to 1 which seems to have more open areas and long stretches where the enemies see you the whole time which would probably be pretty harsh if you couldn't dodge bullets). So different strategies. (like most old-timey shooters) Keep moving and don't stay in the enemies immediate line of sight too long.

Just FYI - DOA is easier than Hard Boiled , been running the game for quite a big chunk of time on and off - but the reality is - DOA is not the hardest diff, its the second one! :D If you want to not get hit - try just rushing through the levels and abuse bullettime. That's about it. Think that the Bullet Time in Max Payne shrinking the Hitboxes are just a glitch than a feature :P P.S. Sorry for the necro.
