Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Why did Max change?
And by that I mean, the voice over.

I know James McCaffrey was his voice in all three, but why does he change his delivery so much between the first game and the second?

The second and third, his delivery is almost tired and bored sounding, as if all the life has been taken out of him. It's got no zest. Whereas in the first one it's bold, commanding, and ... not lively but certainly more biting.

I know the second and third ones are much more Rockstar than the first, is that why the voice over is so different in them compared to the first?

I'm not following. I just found him overly monotone in the first.

The sound of his voice is just different in the second two. Guess no one agrees or even understands my post!

He is supposed to be broken , a person who is depressed will probably speak in such a way.

Think he's that way from the start of the first game!

That's what we call character development. In the first game, he was bitter, angry, and cynical. In the second game, he practically describes himself as a living corpse, dead to everything. His voice perfectly reflects this. He only ever feels (and acts) alive whenever Mona's involved. Vlad even calls him out for this at the end of the game, calling him a miserable, emotionless wreck who's better off dead.

In other words, Max has a good voice actor.

In regards to 3, I don't know what you're talking about. Max Payne 2 never got a sequel. I mean, there was this Rockstar-developed fanfic, but it wasn't any good.

Nice reply. Don't agree with a single word in it, but nice reply.

Hmm. The first section was pretty much objective fact. If you disagree with *that,* then you likely haven't actually played the games. Point two I'll admit is a matter of opinion, but having to point that out is depressing. Point three seems to be what triggered your delicate sensibilities.

I'm sorry.

fanfic? havent heard of one, but there was a sequel called Max Payne 3.

Well, yeah, like I said, it was a fanfic called Max Payne 3. It was really freaking terrible, but don't worry - it was non-canon amateurish nonsense, not worthy of discussion.

it was good, the game was good, in my opinion anyway
but if its worth one thing, atleast its playable unlike max payne 1 and 2 on steam unfortunately

What else are they going to say? "It's rubbish, don't buy Rockstar games?" Don't be silly, man. Surely this stuff is self-evident. Especially given Remedy and Rockstar's history of cooperation.

One way or another, even if the praise is in earnest, it's ultimately superficial and it certainly in no way changes my absolute revulsion with the end-product. Also, keep in mind that this comment was issued *before* the game was release, if I recall.

Max Payne 2 is playable out of the box for me. I'm not trying to be "that guy" who just says "where's the problem, it works for me" but there it is. I have Windows 10. There's an optional widescreen patch that's not too hard to find, if the resolution is borked (which it will be).

MP1 doesn't work at all for me. It runs, but the resolution is hopelessly messed up. I'm sure there's a patch for it, too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Well, there's nothing at all wrong with having an opinion. A lot of people on the internet go berserk if you like or dislike something you're not supposed to, but my problem isn't with you just because you like MP3. My problem is solely with MP3.

It's not all negative. The gunplay is better. The visuals are obviously better. It's much more fun to play overall, for the most part. But in my opinion, MP3 was a wholesale character assassination on every friggin level.

yeah i guess so, i also noticed when playing max payne 1 is that in 3 there's not a whole lot of what it used to be, puzzle solving and other stuff

There's no room for player-involved exposition in the game at all. The game never really "talks" while control is in the player's hands. There are a ton of unskippable cutscenes, which I wouldn't mind so much if the writing were tolerable. Sometimes, it comes close to being okay. Others, I feel like I'm playing Grand Theft Auto with the "ever-so-subtle-quasi-poltical-commentary" dial turned up to eleven and then twisted off.

Here's a drinking game: take a shot every single time they make Max say the word "poor." Surefire trip to the hospital by the time the credits roll. I don't mind commentary, but good God did they straight up *murder* Max's character to turn him into a commentary-delivery-vehicle.
