Max Payne

Max Payne

MAX PAYNE 1 FULLY WORKING ON WINDOWS 8 X64
1) Download the game with steam.
2) Rename the directory so it has NO SPACES:
Mine was D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\Max Payne
changed to D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\MaxPayne
3) Right click the executable and go to properties, then choose Compatibilty.
Tick Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 98/Me and tick Run this program as administrator (Don't know if it is necessary to run as admin).
4) Extract the contents from MaxPayneSoundPatchv1.12 you got here http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=848215 to D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\MaxPayne
5) Run a command prompt as administrator: push windows button, type cmd on metro view and right click and choose run as administrator
6) Type D:\. (Don't do this if your game is installed in C:\)
7) Type cd D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\MaxPayne.
8) Type MaxBatch.bat.
9) Press c to convert game.
10) Let it work. Press any key when done, and then press E to quit.
11) You can delete these folders and files in D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\MaxPayne when succesfully done:
backup (folder)
MaxBatch.bat
maxpayne soundpatch 1.12.txt
RASMaker.exe
rl.dll
SHORTCUT.EXE
sox.exe
12) Go to steam and choose Games/Add non steam game on top.
13) Browse to D:\GAMES\Steam\steamapps\common\MaxPayne\maxpayne.exe
14) Launch the game from steam and go to options and put everything to max and disable anti aliasing.
15) Choose 1400x1050x32 as resolution. I have a 1920*1080 screen and on other resolutions it was stretched or windowed.
16) Press play to play the game.
17) Enjoy the game.

I have Windows 8 Pro X64 and an ATI5970.

Hm, no dice. After going through all this, both on my own and explicitly following your directions, I still can't run the game. I get this:
Steam Error
Application load error 5:0000065434

Do you have the UAC on at all? I'm going to see about updating my drivers...

I'm on Windows 8 Pro 64bit with a nVidia Quadro K2000m.

For me it works with UAC on. But you can try turning it off to see if that helps.

And your error appears to be more like a steam error than a max payne error, it seems to happen with other games too:

After a re-install, that error left. Still no luck with compatability mode. Still just starts the process and sits in the background.
Did you do exactly as explained? Reinstall, remove spaces, convert sound, change compatibility?
Application load error 5:0000065434 on win7 x64
Some people say you need to clean your registry with ccleaner or something but I'm not sure about that. Are your pc's clean or have you recently had any marlware infections or stuff like that?

Also did you try running D:/GAMES/Steam/steamapps/common/MaxPayne/testapp.exe?

Did you try reinstalling steam? Maybe make a backup of your games first.

Maybe try updating directx? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

application load error 0x02
What anti virus program do you guys have?
symantec endpoint protection
I wonder why don't you make a video? It's more simple, this steps are to complicated and unclear.
OMG Thank you so much!! I followed these simple, detailed instructions and it's finally working! Too bad it's too dark to see much of anything in game. Guess I have to mess with my video overlay settings. I'm so glad to finally get this working. Now time for me to find a similar fix for Max Payne 2!
For me the game was working fine but the sound was my problem. Still i went through all the steps and found that all i had to do was the sound patch part. I noticed that a lot of you were haveing problems with finding the exicutible, the exicutible that the game actually runs is the testapp. So when you go and add a non steam game it has to be the testapp. I hope this helps.
I just recently started computer gaming, so I'm not as knowledgeable as others on this forum. I just bought the Max Payne Bundle on sale and like others can't get the games to run. I've got three questions that I hope can be answered. 1)Will this fix work for Win7? 2)Will I have to rollback my AMD drivers like others had to do? 3)Could someone explain steps 5 through 9 cause the OP lost me on those?
Thanks
