Should I play the whole series?
I'm a huge fan of GTA. I was always interested in the Max Payne series.
For those who play Max Payne, is it worth playing just because I like GTA?

Yes. It still holds up to this day and age. It's definitely worth getting.

The first two are rather good, but if you become a fan of those, you will be sorely disapointed by the third. It is worse than the movie they made several years ago, mainly because it takes that much longer to get through the game. That being said, play them all so you can judge for yourself.

I don't know. My advice would be too, to totally play all of them in sequence. But being disappointed by the third.... it is different, it is very much a film, but actually (given the quality of current hollywood production) very good action film.
I think Max Payne series very well illustrate the way our AAA gaming industry conduct itself. First one was a tech demo and quite a leap in gaming mechanics and way to present a film-like story in an interactive game. Second one added proper self-reflection about it being about shooting and killing them all. And the third... well it is over-the-head way over and feeling negative consequences. I mean... I like them all and they are not alike, but they are well written and very well executed.

So.... yes! Buy them and play them. For me ---- update MP1 and 2 so my W8.1 can run them:)

It hasn't aged well at all. Max Payne 1 is absolutely awful in terms of gameplay. The gunplay is atrocious and incredibly frustrating. Since this is a third person shooter that's significant.

It's worth a run through for the story but I finally got around to replaying the game with my Steam copy and I can't take it. Great game back in the day but not anymore.

I found Max Payne 1 more enjoyable than Max Payne 3.

Max Payne one is one of the best games ever made! The story is fantastic, and despite what everyone said, the gameplay is fine. Just don't compare it to any game made recently. The second game is awful as far as the story is concerned. It is literally just a mirror image of the first game. The dialogue in the first game is brilliant, but the second is just half-assed. Finally, the third game, as was said by others, is very cinematic. There are extraordinarily long cut scenes that can't be skipped. This becomes extremely frustrating when you are trying to play through a second time on harder difficulty levels. Besides that, 3 is a good game. The physics are more realistic as well as the gun mechanics. The scripting is much better than the second game (still not as good as the first) and the story is interesting as well. Overall, I highly recommend the first game, but would only advise you to get the second if you plan on playing the third.

Max Payne 1 and 2 are great. Avoid Max Payne 3!
