EASY SOLUTION to get Max Payne running on a newer PC!
So I just found an easy solution to get Max Payne to run on newer systems. Before I had to mess with compatibility settings, create a batch file, and then launch it from there to get it to work. It was a mess. But with this new fix you can launch Max Payne directly from Steam!

It's very simple:

1) Download ReShade 0.19.2 Public Beta[www.dropbox.com]

2) Extract the file you just downloaded and then run the "ReShade Setup.exe".

3) Click on "Select Game" and then choose the "maxpayne.exe".

4) It won't be able to Auto-Detect the DirectX version so manually select the "Direct3D8".

5) Now click "Run MaxPayne Application" and it should work! It might give you an error the first time you try to run it. That just means you need to launch it directly from Steam and it will work.

You can now run Max Payne from Steam whenever you like!

This works for both Max Payne 1 and 2.

Edit: Here's a video if you want to see exactly how to do it.

Thank you so much for this. Works on Windows 10 Tech Preview x64, couldnt for the life of me get maxpayne.exe to detect my Nvidia. After this application, voila, seamless. :)

What in the blue hell just happened? I clicked decline on everything, I did not select express installation and my browser was STILL taken over with unwanted crap.

Beware link. Steam goes into instant verify mode upon install.

I am running MP 1 on WIndows 8 just fine, but I do get a freeze for a few seconds and then either I can't move anymore or the character starts moving by himself and no control is possible.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You're supposed to just download the "ReShade 0.19.0 Public Beta with Framework". There's NO "Express Install" or any other form of installation. Not sure what you clicked on but it wasn't the file I said to download.

What's "full of malware"? Are you talking about Reshade.me or Mediafire? Because there's nothing on Reshade.me and Mediafire is just a normal download hosting site. There's some ads but just don't click on them. Only download what you're supposed to download.
