Yeh, I had a similar experience with the second game. Even with all the communities fixes couldn't get it to run properly. I believe I had a major audio bug as well.
First game wouldn't even start.
Granted I'm using a newer system and there is clearly some issues with running some older games with a modern CPU/GPU.
So the remakes are essential to actually be able to play these games on PC for me.
I know some may (rightly so) express skepticism towards these remakes after the sloppy GTA Trilogy remasters. Given that they're actual remakes though and seem to be headed by Rockstar and Remedy themselves, I think they have a much better chance of being high quality.
Now I switched back to Windows 10 until the Windows 10 updates were switched off on October 30, 2025. And strangely enough, the fall of max payne 2 works without any problems under Windows 10, there haven't been any crashes or anything else. I just can't explain the mystery.
Tbh, I wouldn't mind if they just re-used audio from the first games. They probably have a lot of unused recordings too.
