Max Payne

Max Payne

Starts, but Doesn't Play
Okay, so basically I just bought Max Payne and Max Payne 2 in the bundle, and I'm running into a problem. I tried to play Max Payne 1, but when I hit play nothing happened. I clicked it again and the "Preparing to Launch" window came up, but then was replaced by "Failed to start, (game already running)". Steam does consider the game to be running because I'm racking up minutes on the play time, but there's not window, no audio, nothing. I can't play it. What's really weird is that the same problem occured when I tried to boot up Max Payne 2, but it doesn't occur for any other game. Does someone know what's happening and how I can fix it?

Same, all these old games seem to have a huge problem.

this works for me and I am using windows 8 64-bit

1.Search for msconfig
2. click Boot
3. Click Advance Options
4. Tick number of processors
5. Choose 1
6. Apply Ok and restart

Run game in Windows 98 compactibility mode, and it will run. Just kill maxpayne.exe in task manager before it. And dont forget to use sound fix.

Ah, if only any of these solutions worked for me... Right now it seems those ~3 euros have been wasted.

What is your problem with game?

Hmm. Basically, it just does not launch itself. Tried compatibility, affinity, even crack. None of them worked unfortunately.
I'm glad I haven't bought it for full price.

Try remove (re-move, not delete) intro.mpg from /movies folder.
Now, do you have your drivers up to date? Do you have all windows updates updated? There is lot of stuff you should have, before even trying to run any game.
