Steam deck max Payne fix
Just wanted to post a quick search for people trying to get this game to run on the steam deck

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nPUgYVdj03J1jI0CONMrPit0snFN9P4_/view?usp=drivesdk

This is the jpeg fix. Once you replace this .dll file the game will run almost perfect on your steam deck

+1, thanks so much for this! I'd like to give some more broken-down instructions for any newbies who may find this...

(keyboard and mouse recommended for desktop part but not required)

1. Install Max Payne as usual
2. Hit the steam button, then go to "power" and "switch to desktop"
3. Once in desktop mode, open the link above, click the down-arrow in the top-right to download.
4. Open file location when finished (should be default) and keep this window open.
5. Open your steam client on the desktop, then find Max Payne. Right click -> Browse local files.
6. Drag the file "rlmfc.dll" from the window opened in step 4 into the window that was opened in step 5, confirm to overwrite the file
7. Return to Gaming Mode, launch game. note that it will take longer than you expect to get past the loading screen on first boot - give it time.

[done... optional steps below]
1. Be sure that 1280x800 resolution is selected and feel free to max out all quality settings
2. Hit the steam button, go to controller settings, and browse the community configs - try out different ones until you find the one you like best.

Edit: My bad, the files weren't actually reset as I thought. Verifying integrity reverted the files causing the jpeg error to occur. while trying to load any save game. Keeping this post as it may help others who were confused as I was about the reason for the patch/loading screen hang.

I accidentally unapplied this fix and it seems to be running fine? Maybe its no longer needed or I just haven't ran into the bug yet?

What does this do? I first thought it fixed the crash during the initial loading screen but later realized that wasn't a crash, it just takes a really long time and I wasn't giving it enough time.

Have never played this until now. Followed your steps THANKS GUYS

Confirmed, it works. Just drop the .dll into the game folder. Rather than overwriting the existing .dll, I suggest you rename it and then paste/move the fix over.

Thanks for the fix!

Verifying the file integrity seems to work as well.

There was no R* launcher on this. I just installed, added the file above, and played!

Adding my thanks to the OP for this topic!

ah my bad.
Though had replied to a MP3 thread

MP3 plays amazingly on Deck. You do need to login to R* the first time you run but after that you'll never see it again.
